Help/Advice to ID engine/year and resolve issue please

Hi Guys,

My father in law got given this engine. It is badged as a Mariner 3.5hp and looks to have been little used.
It has good compression and a fat spark but will not run. He suspects some kind of carburettor issue.

Anybody familiar with this model and able to offer some advice.

I think this engine seems to be badged up as a Yamaha as well?

Are these worth repairing?

Any idea what year this engine is?

Anybody got a link to a repair manual?

Comes up as:

3,5 ML 642-307171 - 642-310295 1979

From here:

Parts List:

3.5 H.P. - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

I'll send you a PM re the manual as it takes some explanation on how to get there.

Hi Guys,
could you do do the same again please,I have just got a mariner 25 and found a rod disconnected just under the flywheel hitched up to the throttle linkage going nowhere. The serial no. is 09949957, I would like the year so I can get the correct workshop manual.
