Re: HELP 83 evenrude 90 hp
Howdy, boyd.
Welcome to iboats.
"No power" is not a useful description. I think you mean loss of power under load. That usually happens when one or two cylinders are not making power. How the engine behaves with no load is always useless, because they can seem to be running great and idling great on only one or two.
Have you determined that #1 is not making power under load? Lack of power under full throttle is not the same thing at all.
Start the engine up and, one cylinder at a time, disable the spark. Note what happens to rpm when you do this. If rpm drops that cylinder is making power. If rpm does not change that cylinder is dead.
Now spray some fuel premix into each carb throat. If rpm jumps that cylinder is not getting adequate fuel.
If you say power is way down you may have two cylinders dead. If they are side by side you have a carburetion problem. If they are over-under you have an ignition power pak problem.
Run those checks and let us know what you find. They will cost you nothing. For now let's assume that your wrench wants to tear it down for $$$.
Good luck.
