Nice motor; those electric-starts are sought after. You should get a good flow of water out of the holes in your top pic. The water should be quite warm, like for washing dishes.<br />If you just got the motor and don't know the maintenance history of it you really should drop the lower unit and replace the rubber impeller in the water pump. A new thermostat is a good idea too. That 18HP will run forever if properly maintained - don't be put off by its age. It was built to last and last and last.<br />Scroll to the top of this page, look about 2/3 of the way down, in the center, and you'll see a red "Search" button. Click that and search under "Fastwin Waterpump" or "18HP lower unit" or 18hp impeller" or something similar. Even if you don't do your own work it's good to read up and know the basics of your "new" motor.
