I've noticed that I've been getting a bit more play in the steering wheel over the last three years. There is a slight oil leak coming from the teleflex rotary piece that the steering wheel mounts to. Could this oil leakage be the reason for the play? When I move the wheel from left to right, (only moving the wheel within the play and not turning the outdrive) nothing else is moving, unless I turn the wheel thru the play and actually move the outdrive. I have checked to see if the slop or play was in the cable, and have traced the play down to the dash.

I have to assume you have hydraulic steering from this statement, and if you do have a leak, it will get air into the steering as well and it will cause excess play.

Next, you say you have slop in the cable.

I have checked to see if the slop or play was in the cable, and have traced the play down to the dash.

Hydraulic steering does not have cables.
So now I am confused of what you have.
