Hawkeye depth gauge troubleshooting

My D10D depth finder doesn't show a readout (one season old). Fuse is OK. I hooked the leads up directly to 12V battery...still nothing. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot these, or is it worth it. Replacement is about $70.

Turn the unit on and place your hand on the bottom of the transducer. If you don't feel anything, either the transducer or display or both are toast.
