I have a 2004 Mercury 125 (4 cyl) Saltwater Outboard that is due for a new impeller. I was not successful dropping the lower unit to do the water pump job. After removing the 5 nuts (2 on each side under the cavitation plate and one through the anode) the unit would NOT budge. I tapped with a rubber mallet and with a 2X4 and even then it would absolutely NOT move. Is there any other bolt, nut or clamp I overlooked. Everywhere I looked, folks just mention the 5 nuts. Any suggestions?

Re: Having trouble replacing impeller - Mercury 125

This won't really be of help but...we just bought a 2003 125 and because of the low hours the impellar had never been changed. The shop had to us a torch to take out the bolts and then they needed a few guys to convince it to move....So, there is a chance it is just stuck.

(PS: we are bringing it back to that shop this week since the motor is probably overheating above 3000RPMs, which sounds like a weak water pump)
