The problem with abandoning signed treaties, like we did with the ABM treaty, is that it is really hard to get all righteous when someone else abandons a different treaty.<br /><br />While I think we should do everything possible, short of pre-emptive nuclear attack, to keep Iran from getting Nukes, but I fear that genie is already out of the bottle. Pakistan already has nukes, and is only an assassin's bullet away from having a lunatic in charge of it.

I agree on Pakistan, but again, absolute consistency is not required . . . Generally a noble goal, but things change.<br /><br />PW and I actually agree totally on Iran. Sooooo, we should intervene militarily if required to prevent them from advancing their nuclear capabilities?

If we even think about going into Iran, we better re-instate the draft & be prepared to use our own nuclear arsenal......<br />I don't think that Iran will be a pushover like Iraq was .....<br />We need to quit trying to install democracy in countries that don't want it....<br />The government's policy with regards to Iran should be scorched earth & withdrawal, if they refuse to back down & play nice.....<br />Now that would be a legacy that "W" could be proud of .....JK

Has anyone actually read up on Iran and their progress concerning Uranium Enrichment? In the news the other day there was a story that Iran had been successful in enriching uranium for the first time, but what the story didn't mention is that the enrichment was a measley 3.5%. Weapons grade uranium takes at least 80% enrichment. They are still a looong way off from having any nukes of their own.

Well, I agree Ken....<br />I'm curious as to how what is the difference in the percentage of reactor fuel as compared to weopons grade....<br />How much time will it take to make the leap from one to the other?<br />As far as them being years away, I ain't buying that for a nanosecond....<br />We did the Manhattan project done in a couple years, from scratch.....<br />It only took the Russians another four years....<br />& that was 60 years ago!<br />I'd be willing to bet they are further along than some would like the general populace know ......JK

Well Ken you gotta remember that they had hostages of ours because they overthrew the government that the good ole USA forcefully installed.....nation building in the Middle East never has and never will work. And is them calling us the "Great Satan" any worse than us calling any one of them willing to stand up and fight us an evil terrorist?<br /><br />And out of curiosity, what makes anyone think Iran will have a nuke anytime soon when just about every expert I've heard has said thats not the case? I've yet to see any evidence that Iran is anywhere near able to build the bomb. Oh thats right, because the current warmongering administration says so. Deja Vu, anyone?

My question is why does any country in the middle East have to develop nuclear power when they are sitting on a bazzilion barrels of oil? The tree huggers in the US have effectively blocked us from building anymore reactors for power so we buy our oil from the middle East while they say they want to enrich uranium for power generating.... is it just me or is there something very odd about this whole picture?
