This past Friday headed down to the dock to spend another great weekend on my boat. At the dock there is seasonal slips as well as transient. So it is neat to see different boats come and go. Of course those of us with the larger boats are kept at the end since the water is deeper and weed free. The slip next to mine has a real nice Amber Jack and the owner is a real nice guy. He watchs my boat and I watch out for his as well as other boats there. Well on Saturday, my friend that has the Amber Jack needed to fuel up and change his prop that got distroyed. So normally we put our boat in the first couple of slips that is close to the bank. Fueling up a 100 gallon tank using 5 gallon cans equals a bunch of trips.

Well Saturday in this slip next to my friends boat was a little 12 foot wood boat with a 30hp Evinrude. The guy had explained that this was the first time he has had it out. All the wood was like new. He really did a number 1 restoration. Well to make this story shorter, my friends boat came untied and the stern swung over and crunched the little wood boat up against the dock. I was sitting in my cabin watching my fishing poles minding my own business when I hear loud cussing going own. I look out my cabin door and see this guy about 6'6" 300 lbs, holding the end of my friends rope to the stern of the Amber Jack. So I walk down to see what is up. He was mad as all get out. He says, this blankity blank boat is in the wrong spot and has ruined my boat, I worked real hard for the last 3 years getting this boat to show quality and this sorry SOB can't even tie up his da** boat. I said please mister calm down, the guy did tie the boat up because I was there talking to him and watched him tie it up. It was an accident plan a simple.
So alittle bit later here comes the Ranger with the owner of the little boat. This rather large intimidating man had tears running down his face. The Ranger looked to see what damage was done. He couldn't see any, my friend couldn't see any, and I couldn't see any damage. Then the owner spoke up and said that he just assumed that there was damage due to the larger boat being heavier and its size that there had to be damage. Then he looked and reallized he had been crying in front of all of us for no reason. He was so ashamed, he loaded his boat up, packed up his camp and left.

Would this be considered an "Act of God" since the rope untied itself? In Ohio if a rock falls off a dump truck and hits your windshield, it is considered "An Act of God" and you cannot hold the driver responsible.

Re: Hate to see a man cry

Greetings,

I can understand the tears, sadly. I once owned a car for which I had a similar adoration. I built a 1894 Toyota Supra from the ground up. Engine, suspension, the works. Inside and out and under the hood that car looked good, and outrun many 8 cylinder sportsters before God taught me the true meaning of "Pride goeth before destruction" Prov. 16:18. The car was destroyed in a crash, but my pride endured and I rebuilt the car with money we didn't have for such foolishness. The day I was satisfied that I had completed the rebuild, NFL Football player Emit Smith's ex-girlfriend turned a U turn right into the passenger side of the car as I travelled East on hwy 90 at about 50 mph. That was it. After pontificating this for a while the real opiphany occurred, IT WAS JUST A CAR! A piece of lifeless metal. Since then I have learned to lay my treasure up in heaven, everything else is stubble and hay.....none of this junk we take pride in here will withstand the fire.

Good boating and God Bless,(and please escuse the poor spelling:)
SoulWinner

Boy, I never saw an 1894 Toyota--I'd have been proud of that puppy too. I'll treat Toyotas with a little respect from now on! Just kidding, I had an 86 MR-2 that I loved dearly and wish I still had it...

God expects the best from all of us. And an effeort expressed in metal, plastic or paint is an effort nometheless. Of course, it's nice to have the strength to take the lows with the highs.
And if not, where to get it.

Hey Sloopy, a little less of the methamphetamines and a little more black tea sport. That's what this nurse prescribes for you.

Just between you and me mate, I have been known to thank my boat occasionally after a particulary hairy outing. Only quietly and out of earshot of others, after all I don't want the blokes in the white coats..............."No get off.....let me finish my post.........get that needle out of my aaarrrmmmm"...........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ross

You worry me Sloopy, you know that Ritalin and depression don't make sense!
Now what's going on over there?
If you're feeling less than 100% then it may be time to visit the local doctor. If you are indeed ailing then you already have all the information to act on and just need a wee push in the right direction.
Have you got a partner or significant other to talk this through with. If not then there must be a number you can call.
Can somebody local help with info.......
Ross

Re: Hate to see a man cry

In my old neighborhood, the people around there acted something like Sloop, but they were using illegal drugs! Probably cheaper than those that Sloopy is taking. Couldn't figure out how they were unemployed, stood around the corner, and still make house payments, Lincoln payments, boat payments and payments on all that jewelry that they got. Or was that stuff stolen?

And yes I talk to my boat. Prior to starting her up every time. "Please start _itch, Please"! and everytime I put her in gear like "You better work you piece of crap"! And then when she breaks, it is not so much talking to her, but SCREAMING at her in language people 100' away shouldn't hear. Yes I love my Boat! :D

Re: Hate to see a man cry

Much like you Mayfloat I "talk" to my boat but I also have been known to thank it after a very good or harrowing trip. I also ask it to be good to me before we leave the yard on a trip. It does not always work which ends up with me screaming things at it.
