I recently purchased a 1994 chaparral signature 24. I purchased the boat cheap because it has gelcoat damage. I had someone look at the boat to get an idea of how much money it would be to repair. The guy said it would be cheeper to paint the boat. He recomended imron pait but i recently came across a product called Signature Finish. This seems to be a better option for me due to weather temps. and no place to spray it indoors. Has anyone used this product before and or have pictures?

I found similar starts but no finish results & definitely no long term durability reports on other boat boards.

Sounds like a great product, but pricey. From their site, I don't see the improved workability & humidity work range being a big enough improvement to justify nearly twice the price of other good, known 2-part systems. I am NOT a painter, nor a coatings expert....

From what I know of Zool, he'll help ya anyway he can & would probably make recommendations for products & paint systems he knows WELL.

Here's another thread about the paint:

The part that i liked about signature finish is that i was told they can match my current color. Im not painting the whole boat so i would like to match the color. I know i wont be perfect but i want to do from the rub rail down to the bottom paint

If you were going to paint the whole boat.. I would recommend Gator Glide.. Its meant for air boat hulls but if very easy to apply. And VERY durable.

Well if it's just a Matter of matching the color, and your only painting the sides, then you can use just about any paint you want. Any reputable paint supplier should be able to do a decent job of mixing and matching. If you get her clean first.;)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Most all paints can be bought in Custom mixed Colors,....

All it takes is a paint Number,....

I use Martin Seymour Prizim from my local Napa,....

It's 'bout like the Imron mentioned, tough as nails, on a properly prepped surface,...

Changin' hardeners gives ya different properties to the paint,...
They've got stuff out now, that turns Prizim into anti-graffiti paint, slick as glass,...
A hull painted with it at the shop had it's boot stripe "Wash Off" at the dock, within a week of launch,....
'n when it came outa the river this fall, it was amazin'ly Clean, for a docked boat,....

I can't wait to throw some onto 1 of My hulls,... ;)

Another thought,.... Ya might consider goin' to a complimentin' color,....
Rather than an "Almost" matchin' color,....

Custom mixes ain't always an Exact match,...
I had a guy use some machine to scan a color to match it, the sample was more contrastin', than matchin',...
That's why paint Numbers are so important,...

All said and done, you will probably be better served to just wait it out il spring, which is the best time to paint outdoors, low humidity, and no bugs! Plus, the fact that your doing the sides means you increase the chances of runs and drapes, as the slower dry time will be a bear to deal with and you will most likely get uneven gloss between the sun/shade areas.

If you must, you could check with Sherman Williams Industrial outlets, they will have some products to choose from that will be primerless and fast drying...but most wont warrantee use on glass/gel...
