Defenitely unique looking and sounds like a nice project for you and your dad to do together. Is the trailer supposed to float with the foam in it?

thanks and yes it is supposed to float i havent seen it in action though but you know i will have pics of its first time to hit the water and i have pics of the whole boat resto in progress and as some time i will post them.. especially after the paint is done we are also painting the trailer to match

I dont think we will ever get rid of this boat due to the work and the rareness of the boat and trailer

And where about in kansas are you from GeoHawk

I'm in Iola, KS. Southeast part of the state. Unfortunately, I have to drive over an hour any direction to get to a decent lake. Most of the time we just head into Missouri and hit Stockton lake, but that is a 2 hour drive. :(

Sorry I can't help with your research but I just wanted to say that trailer is awesome. I am picturing how it must work floating in the water. Would make it really easy to retrieve your boat with a floating trailer. I can honestly say I have never seen a trailer like that. If I saw you going down the road I would do a triple take. To me that alone is worth the $800. Nice job.

UPDATE!

I dont know if anyone out there cares at all but oh well.
i found a little more information on the boat and trailer
1st the boat is actually a 88 not an 87 it was built late 87 as a 88 model year

the company was in business about two years
http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=VAJ

the trailer was the the thought on Gary J. Cooper of Jackson MI however this is a little different version from the one i have.

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4781392.html ( scroll down a little ways and click on the Download PDF for pictures of the orginal design

but thats prolly why i cant find any information at all on the boat the manufacter or the people who worked there.

I find this very very interesting personally

anyones comments or knowledge would be amazying

OH! and the trailer was only made for about one year so honestly there cannot be very many if any still out there

Thanks!

Good job searching! I think you have a diamond in the rough. You should make sure you print or save all the info you can on your project. Keep us updated!

Re: Has any one heard of this boat and or trailer??

I live in Hays, KS and I remember in the mid 80's the Chrylser dealer who also sold RV's had a couple of this type of boat on his lot. It sticks in my mind because of the the floating trailer, although I remember the boats as being outboards. One of my neighbors father is in the sporting goods business and lives in Oberlin, If I get an opportunity I ask him if he rememers anything about this company. My work has taken me to Oblerlin in the past and it is a nice rural community.

That's neat you're finding some info on that manufacturer. We've had a couple boat makers here in Iola that are now gone, IMP and Prestige. The original IMP made boats from 72-90, then Prestige from 90-2000, and someone tried to restart IMP from 2000-03, but didn't really get anywhere. Now all we can say is that Cobalt boats are made about 50 miles south of us. :p

Ya its actually amazying how many boat companies there have been in our history most of them id assume didnt make it due to bad managment or accounting or taxes haha

what i find is crazy is this company was only in company for 2 years and the trailer patent was in 88 so that means the it was made for a max of 1 full year. so there cant be very many around. even if its not the best built boat and small motor and small boat and a crazy trailer i like it because it is very very rare
