The boat is a 1987 Valiant I/0. made by Decatur Manufacturing inc. out of oberlin Ks. Its registered as a 17 footer my dad and i bought together as a project. the interior is shot and the floor is shot and of course the foam is shot but motor funs strong and the OMC outdrive is in good condition.

Someone tell me im not the only one out there with this boat

I did do a little research on the trailer and its called a 1988 Quay Floating trailer made by Decatur Man.

The boat appears to be very well built and same with the trailer but neglected like most mid 80s boats

All the ones i see on the net are sail boats, so I got nothin....:D

What size motor? kind of drive and so on... Dont keep us in suspence...:mad::D

still working on the pic issue .. but its a little ford 2.3 that has been recently rebuilt and i dont know much about the outdrive other than its a OMC Cobra
The Hull is in great shape. we are doing almost a full resto... Paint Floor Foam Carpet, seats, uphostlery. we are custom cabinet builders so you know we will have some custom touches ;)

Wow... That is one crazy looking trailer. Never heard of either. I live in Ks and never even heard of that town. Hmmm....

oberlin is a small town that is in northwest ks just south of McCook Ne.

Where are you from in ks? in from newton

Ya the trailer is all fiberglass with a metal frame and with Closed cell Foam on the underside

I had a 2.3 Cobra in a 88 Bayliner. Seemed a bit under powered to me. I could top off in the 30's. You probably won't hear any good things about OMC. They went out of business about 10yrs ago. It is my understanding that parts van be very hard to come by. Hope you got a good deal on the boat. You are looking at a pretty big job if you gotta completely gut it. Some may say that materials and time may be more than the boat is worth.

ya i bought it as project for my father and i so the cost not that important but im going to do a few add ons to the motor like ignition a better carb and a few little things here and there .. but its just a fun thing for us and the previous owner was a good freind and was in a bind so we got a ok deal i got it for 800 with trailer and the trailer in 88 was about a 4500 dollar trailer beileve it or not (seems stupied to me).

Not gonna say you got a great deal but you didn't get hurt either. If you are looking for a project and enjoy the work you will be fine. Just realize that if the boat needs completely gutted and rebuilt you probably won't be saving any money even if you do all the work your self. I have found that a trashed $200 boat can easliy cost more than a decent shape $2500 boat. Either way that is a cool trailer and the boat looks pretty decent of the outside. If you or anyone else are ever in the area feel free to mesage me.

Ya we are expecting to have 3k in the boat but we are also using the best stuff we know of and like i said we dont mind the time to us its fun and we are splitting the cost half. but i could have got it for like 500 or less but it was to help a buddy out and to get us a new project and i thought the boat and trailer combo where pretty damn cool because no one i know has ever seen one! :) and hell ya ill get ahold of you next time we are up to go to the lake. like i said my wifes grand parents live on the lake and her parents live in junction city and we are up there all the time . her dad actually works and briggs Dealership in manhattan

If I am not mistaken VIP boats were made in Vivian LA. I will do some more searching.

Ya i came across Vip in my reserach but i dont think that is the maker because mine is clearing produced by Decatur Manufacting and the side of the boat said Oberlin KS. but that could mean that was the dealership that it was sold from or that is where it was manufactured im not sure

And the part that said oberlin Ks was part of the emblem that said Valiant
Its very confusing for me

But also kind of fun trying to find the history of the boat or company

Defenitely unique looking and sounds like a nice project for you and your dad to do together. Is the trailer supposed to float with the foam in it?
