Hard to start when hot.

Just had a brand new jasper remanufactured 4.3 installed in my regal 2150. Boat runs beautiful but when its hot it turns over extremely slow, to the point im afraid she will not fire back up. It has a brand new starter and both batterys have half a season on them and are perfect. I am thinking that the timing is too far advanced and is causing the hard starting problem when hot? The manifolds and risers are also brand new so I know she is running nice and cool. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Hard to start when hot.

Welcome to iboats.
You should definitely check the timing. Since its a new engine, its most likely not where it needs to be.
Good luck.

When you say turns over slow, do you mean before it starts? If so, timing isn't going to do much for you there. I have seen starter cables act up when they get hot so you may want to check there. I have also seen starters act up when they are hot. Maybe the battery is getting hot as well and causing a problem.

Could it be too tight of an engine? Just thinking that it is rebuilt and when things get hot, they expand. Maybe casuing some sort of friction. Just a thought.

I am sure the experts will chime in with more thoughts.
