Hey if anyone has read my soft deck thread you know I'm in the middle of a complete restore of a 1974 Skeeter Bass Boat. I just got up to removing the transom and I tell you what its not going easy. The majority of the transom is solid but there was some rot and from what I can tell this would be the best time to just make every thing new. The internal fiberglass was cracked and seperating from the transom so that came of well but Im having trouble getting the whole assembly out. I would like to try and keep the old transom intact as much as possible for outlining the new one. If anyone has got a lot of experience with this I could use some help. Pictures are in my soft deck thread. Thanks all;)

Re: Hard time removing transom

Its probably better to keep all of this in one thread so we don't get confused as to what's going on with your project.

Pry, push, pull, cut, pound, grind, drill, hammer and swear is the normal method. Don't worry about using it for a pattern, if it gets destroyed you can easily make a new one from cardboard.

I cut the top open, drilled 1 inch holes all the way down with drill extension then in goes an elec chainsaw and out comes the wood.
finish with prybars, chisels etc.

Re: Hard time removing transom

Yup caps off. The main issue is the side of the hull has a "step" design to it. every six inches or so there is a half inch jog towards the center of the boat creating a step look. The transom is cut to fit this but unfortunetly its going to make removing it a lot tougher and more acute with the tools. Thanks guys Im going to keep cracking at itand see where I go. Anymore hints comments or words of encouragement would be great.
