HARD pull to right

I have a 1985 25hp long shaft mariner. I am using it on a 16 foot fiberglass boat. The problem is that is pulls hard to the right. My arms get tried trying to fight it. I understand that they do tend to pull to the right and should be able to somewhat be off set by the trim tab. The problem is that i adjusted the trim tab and have not notice a difference. What could it be? I have tried shifting the load on the boat and it does not help. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: HARD pull to right

there is tension adjustment on that motor somewhere. Does the motor swing side to side easily?

Re: HARD pull to right

mariner. stick with 1 post for problems.
is there a handle just above the the clamp between and below the cowl to adjust steering tension?
A serial number off the motor would help ALOT.
AND. is the boat also a 20 inch transom?

Re: HARD pull to right

Mariner25, I would think that with a long shaft motor on a 20" transom that might cause some of your problem. How long have you had this boat and motor together?

Wing. a long shaft motor requires a 20 inch transom +- an inch.

Mariner25. a pic of your transom and motor would help alot. with vent plate(just above of prop) in coralation to the bottm of transom.
Should be the same height. To make sure you don't have a xl(extra long shaft)

Re: HARD pull to right

Here is what I have. It is a 20 inch transom. The shaft is 22 inches. I measured for the inside of the clamp to the plate. From the bottom of the transom to the plate was 2 inches. Also, we were talking about the tension adjustment, it that what I have a picture of. And another, do you see how the whole motor is leaning. The clamp is flush with the transome, I will see what I can do about that. Could that also be an issue? Thank you.

Re: HARD pull to right

Leaning would be an issue. Looks like you got a 25" motor on a 20" transom.

Re: HARD pull to right

I see a combination of problems. Leaning motor,(whats up with that?) lower leg too long and as laddies pointed out I don't see a trim tab. You mentioned you adjusted it, did it fall off?

Re: HARD pull to right

I do have a new trim tab on order. I fell off after a day of testing it. I had adjusted it everyway, nothing helped. The lean, not sure. The clamp is flush, I will pull it to the house this weekend and see if I can fix that. Nothing looks bent. Like I said before the shaft measured 22 inches. That is still a long shaft right?

Re: HARD pull to right

Also, just throwing this out there. I am using it on a 16 foot fiberglass boat. I run about 25 mph. With WOT I can see the plate just below the water.

Re: HARD pull to right

You are 5 inches too low in the water. Measure from the top of tramsom To vent plate, just above the prop. it will be 25 inches.
