bought a 77 Anchor open bow and a 1958 Evenrude 50. was worried that if it was going to run cause never tested it when I bought it but got it on the boat put some fuel to it and it fired right up

Those are famous for fuel consumption.-----Invest in an extra fuel tank if you are using it on a regular basis.

all ready on it. I heard a few people say that. I also have a mc culloch 45 that I`m going to get going. see how that is

The McCulloch 45 will be significantly better on fuel and Very close in power.

Fuel consumption on those big bore, low rpm OMC engines is why they engineered "Loop charging" 10 years later introduced in the 3 cylinder Triump 55 hp.....cut the fuel consumption in half besides redoing the lower unit and prop style/RPM and all that for a totally different OMC experience......I know I had both sides of that equation at the time.
