is anyone familiar with this or know someone who is? i am thinking about getting this so i dont bottom out my prop again... im not fond of the idea of drilling into my boat so this would have to work

And when would you use this? Be aware that if you are running 30 MPH you are not going to stick this thing over the side to see how deep the water is. Even if you did, it reads depth at that point in time. By the time you got a reading your prop would already be history. You really need something that can map the bottom so you can follow the contour and tell ahead of time whether you risk grounding. Even the cheapest fish finders do this nicely. I've used a similar item and found it to be useless except for ice fishing when trying to locate a hump that I knew was in a general area.

I use one of those for kayaking. Works fine for that use but Silvertip is right- a handheld isn't really appropriate for a speedboat.
For about the same money you can get a basic sounder with a transom-mounted transducer, like this Hummingbird:
