Im Baaaakkkk....

Anyway, I fooling around with another boat here and need some help guessing how much material I'm going to need. I finally got my father to drop off his Ranger that has been collecting moss in his yard. Luckily, he was good about keeping it covered so there is minimal if any sun damage to the boat itself. However the trailer fenders took a beating. The clear gelcoat is pretty much gone, Wet sanding immediately silvers the flake, there's nothing left to cut and polish. At some point pops clipped a rock in the yard and broke the fender corner, so i'm going to repair that anyway. I'm not worried about the actual glass work, that'll be easy enough, and I'm going to do both fenders so they match.

Fortunately the gold flake is still available from Ranger so I don't have to worry about matching colors. What I'm trying to figure out is how much clear gelcoat and polyflake I'm going to need. I'm guessing about a gallon of Gelcoat and have no idea about the quantity of flake. What's your best guess?

Thanks guys, Checked out both links. I see they recommend about 16 oz of flake per gallon of gelcoat and claim the average bass boat takes 2-3 pounds of flake. Since I'm only doing the trailer steps/fenders It looks like 16oz and a Gallon should do what I need. Nice work in that link Scott, I kinda feel bad for the Reatta guy. Brushing that flake on sure didn't make his life any easier.

While I'm at it, Is the Duratec high gloss additive worth the expense? Since it's only fenders I could seal it with PVA and rinse it off, wetsand and buff.

I just went out and measured, Looks like each fender is only about 10 sq ft if that helps confirm anything.
