hi everyone!! i'm new to iboats and I am recently a new owner of a 1994 17' bayliner with a 120 force outboard! and yes, iam prepared for the force bashing!! lol!!! all joking aside, the boat is a cherry, excellent kept, and the motor runs great!! totally pleased!! but my boat only has two gauges, mph and fuel!! being a former race car driver, I rely on my gauges! I recently ordered Teleflex arctic rpm, volts, and trim gauges! but i'm a bit in the dark about the rpm gauge! I am wondering is it going to work on my force outboard and how to hook it up? I've heard about the 12 pole or 20 pole alternator, I'm not sure what I have, or if it matters? I do know it does have an ignition upgrade! any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!! thanks everyon,, john!

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone here can tell you which set-up you have but you could count the number of poles under you flywheel until they answer. Check out the pics below

I would get some type of temp gauge also. There are several way to do this. By far the easiest is a cylinder head temp guage.

Pertty straight foward install: place the sender under a head or exhaust bolt and run the wire into the back if the gauge. Then supply the guage with a 12+ and a ground.
Another good gauge to get is an hour meter. Helps with regular maitenance.

I hope this helps,
Tom

From what I can remember, if your motor is a 1994, most likely it has the blue CD ignition modules. If you have the 2 blue CD modules like in the picture, then you have a 20 pole stator.

You need a tach that is compatible with a 20 pole stator. If your tach is not compatible with a 20 pole stator, it will not read correctly.

Teleflex may have a list on their web site that tells you what to set the tach to for all the motors. Faria does I know.

The 20 pole tachs are a little tricky to come by. Keep an eye on ebay for good deals.....
