Iam attemping to replace my water pump and change the oil in the lower unit.Ive ran into problem taking my lower unit off.Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you disconnected the shift lever at the engine end?<br /><br />Did you find the bolt above the trim tab after you removed the tab? <br /><br />How many bolts did you remove from the gearcase? Should be 8 I think.

Well what i had done was pull out 4 bolts out of the lower unit and drain oil out of lower unit. and now have started taking colier of from around the bottom of motor.

I took the colier off found 6 more bolts took them loose along with 4 smaller bolts on back of motor two loose right next to where tilt. Iam now stuck found two more bolts above where tilt connects can not figure out how to get to those two bolts to take them loose? any good advice would be very helpful.

I took out 6 bolts upper unit and 6 from lower unit,took 4 loose from rear of motor, and loosen two below tilt cant get to the two top of tilt.

Those top bolts go to the powerhead. put them back in.<br />Remove the trim tab under the AV plate. There's a bolt under there as well as a larger one you can see under there.<br /><br />Then you'll need to disconnect the shift.<br /><br />Do yourself a huge favor. Get a service manual. It'll pay for itself on this job alone.
