I have to VENT!

Happy Birthday present from my VGLI (Veterans Group Life Insurance) since I am lucky enough to reach 55 (my last B-day in September) my insurance rates are going up....... not just a little bit but a 97% increase!!!:mad::mad: Just shy of doubling in price!

Now on top of that is this....... no pay raise in my retirement pay

"2010 Update: The CPI dipped below 4 percent in the first two quarters of FY2009 and was still in negative numbers at the end of the fiscal year. Due to the negative CPI in FY2009 there will be no COLA increase for retirees in 2010."

I am mad.

I image many people on a fixed income face the same things...... mine is not fixed but falling. :(

Thanks for your service, brother! I've always heard that once you retire or hit 55, SGLI sucks!

Thanks for you service for us. and I am sorry to hear that, But be fortunate. there are many of us out there that have lost EVERYTHING because of this depression and crappy economy.

I lost my job due to downsizing. lost all my benefits my health insurance and we have 7 kids and grandma to take care of between us.

I would be happy to pay double what I was paying before. when my job evaporated, it would have cost me 700% increase to keep what I had.

All our best to you. but it could be way worse. and the way things are going wit hthis country it's going to get WORSE before it gets better.. hang in there..

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Gotta vent

Just sent my first check out today, because the wife wanted some more insurance.

::hmmm, why would that be a sudden concern?:::eek:

I saw the chart and I'm still in the 44-49? Group.

And witenite0560, SGLI is a different insurance that guarantees my retirement pay would continue after my death. The premiums increase as the returns diminish, from what I saw. Bad deal.

VGLI is a rather expensive Term Life, but there's no physical required and the return is steady. I think I could find a better term policy, but the wife wants it. I think I'm paying the price for her (senior officer) father's negligence, since he's obtained no life insurance and we will end up taking care of mom.

Same bad stuff happening to SS retirees, Bob. No COLA (second year in a row. Never happened before), increased Medicare fees, etc., etc.

Sorta makes a grouchy old fart grouchy. RATZAKRATZA!!

For once in my 50 years. I used a little bit of my health insurance. They jacked the price up over $100 per month. I bet mine will jump a lot more when I hit 55. We really have no choice. If you shop around then you will find consistent rates across the board. You can get lower rates but just wait until you need it and see what little it covers. People over 60 don't care about us and people under 30 don't care about us. We are in you better hope you never get sick land

We feel you pain.

Probably not too many jobs, military, civilian, or otherwise, that get any COLA raises, these days. Everybody's costs for everything, are going up like crazy, also.

I guess you could be thankful you still have retirement money coming in. I'm beginning to doubt if there will be any retirement money left, if I retire, 14 years from now.

Hang in there.

Which is why I have to say.... get a skill, employ your self, do your taxes, and claim you make minimum wage. Money looks great on paper, a bank account statement, an IRA, investments etc..... but unless you actually have it in your pocket, you have nothing.

thats EXACTLY what I have been doing, I have been self employed for about 2 years now. I make less than I used to but again I only work maybe 2 hours a day. I'm putting aside a little to retire on. but My "job" I can do till I die.. and by then I'll pass it on to my kids.

Damn!

I am waiting on my retirement health care options and potential price increases. The re enrollment period starts very soon.

I also got a notice from my insurance agent, warning that they expect increases in house and car insurance. So much for COLA going down.

That sucks Gary. Happening quite a lot over here as well. Lay off just before seniority and benefits.

Re: Grrrrrrrrr Gotta vent

One little bit of good news.

I just signed an agreement with my natural gas supplier. In the past I've paid as much as $1.03 per CCF

Last year I got it for $0.69 CCF

This year, it's 0.648 per CCF

Good news if you live in Northern Michigan.

Don't get good news too often, so I'm happy with this one!

Gary, because you're in an industry I am considering trying I was wondering why you don't just go with a nat'l carrier? is it just the home time or is there a different reason.

sorry to hear about your job loss.

OP sorry to hear about insurance increase but I think they're coming for all of us very soon.

DON"T try the VA system, been with them 2 years. multiple doctors, who sit at a computer, and enter what you tell them.

they have not got a clue, as to what is going on. i have about, $10,000 worth of medication, they prescribed, then tell you not to take it.

presently, i have Hepatis B, Low Kidney functions, Hernia, Malnutrition, because i can't eat.

these idiots have not go a clue. atleast fix the hernia.

really considering going back into a medicare program. But, it was just as bad.
