I have a Shorelander trailer for a 16 foot boat. I was repacking the bearings today and noticed that their are shallow grooves in the spindle. I was told if the wheel fits on well that I didn't have much to worry about. Is that true? Your answers are appreciated. I have attached a picture. The grooves are on the raised part next to the black part. IMG_20220623_174207461.jpg

I'm pretty sure we're looking at a replaceable spindle sleeve here. Something like this. What's your trailer model# I can help you look up the shorelandr part#

Had the same issue on my trailer. That grooved area is where the rear seal rides. Research Speedi-sleeve and it will show you how to measure the diameter and what sleeve to buy. Be sure to use a gasket sealant under the sleeve.

I just repaired mine last week. Here are some pics. Measure where you need the sleeve to end up. Its easy to go too far. And use a sealer to stop water from coming in underneath it.
