Grinding noise

Hello all,

I took my boat out today for the first time since last October.. it’s a sea ray with a mercrusier 5.7 alpha one.
when pulling out of the canal I noticed an annoying grinding type noise when moving and again at idle. When in neutral it seems louder then when in gear, and also sounds like it’s over revving.. the noise also gets louder when turning the wheel hard left or hard right
The noise may have a little gurgling too.

Any thoughts?? Thank you

Most likely gimbal bearing and/or U joints. When was the last time the drive was removed, inspected and alignment checked?

The beginning of last season. It was only ran about 60 hours last season and sounded great right before it was winterized.

It sounded fine except for one short time of a slight higher pitch screech or something.

Check the lube level at the drive vent pulp, then pull the drive, I think its their.

I pulled the boat today and do not hear the noise out of water

The plug on the top section of the drive which is removed when the drive is being filled

Put your fingers inside the gimble bearing and rotate it. See if it feels a smooth as silk with no roughness

Yes the one circled.
Do lower the drive full down before removing. The plug is removed when ever the drive is refilled from the bottom.
