Grinding, how far do i go?

I am working through the grinding process on my Wellcraft. The original stringers were CSM and attached with Roving to the hull. I cut out all stringers and now in deep with the grinding. My questions is, How far do I need to grind? Do I just make a smooth surface of the old roving or do I grind down to the original hull? The stringer roving is tough as nails so I am not sure that it needs to be totally ground down. Your help is always appreciated.

Just down to solid glass, if the woven is solid you don't need to grind it away.

Welcome to iBoats!

Pics will help us to help you, but basically you need to grind down to good fresh glass so the new will adhere properly.

I agree..just grind out the bad glass ( grinding off good glass is a waste of time ) just clean your glass bonds.

I like 24 grit to 36 grit for new glass applications..Not 80 grit :) .

YD.

PS. As WOG said..got pics ?

No pics today. looks like a snow storm inside of a boat. thanks for the tips. Pics on the restore coming soon. Anyone know how I can change my original "77 wellcraft soft floor" thread to "1977 Wellcraft Suncruiser complete restore?"
