Re: Greenhorn on Easter in Idaho

Hey things like that happen. You learn from these instances. I threw my boat in the water one spring at the local ramp, fired it up and sent my dad with the truck and trailer home as I was heading from the launch ramp to the boat lift in front of his house. Problem was that I hadn't checked all the systems and over the winter my steering cable had frozen. So I had a running boat and couldn't steer it. Naturally there were other people waiting at the ramp who thankfully were just laughing at me and not mad. I had to laugh at myself too. My father came back about 15 mins later with the trailer and a funny look on his face like "WTF?" (this was WAY before cell phones) and I motioned for him to come get me out of the water.

Anyway I now have a slightly longer checklist. And I don't trust marinas to lube my stuff anymore either, BTW.

My maiden voyage in my 'new to me' boat was very similar.

Happily it started though, almost 100 yards down a croc-infested river.

That's when I discovered it had a spun prop...
