Green sparkplug ends

I am having a lot of trouble with the ends of my plug wires corroding. I have a 1988 Mercury 100hp 2+2 outboard. The ends are copper and corrode to the point of no spark seems like every week.It seems to be worse in the top two cylinders. I always cover the motor when not in use and it isn't getting wet in the water. Is it true that you should not have copper ends on marine wires, but stainless steel. Is there something other than moist air that could be causing this (cracked coil?). We have tried a sealing gel made for this issue and it doesn't help? Anyone have a fix or a type of replacement ends or wire kit I should use? Thanks

Re: Green sparkplug ends

A lot of Merc spark plug wires have stranded stainless steel wire conductors. These obviously do not corrode much. Are your wires original?

I am not sure. I bought the boat last summer. Do you think switching them out will solve the issue or do you think there is a deeper issue that is causing this? Thanks.
