Grease Zerk Fitting Question . . .

Ayuh,..... Many, if not most grease gun couplers don't adjust tightness like in Scott's video,....
Seein's I've been greasing stuff since the '60s, I've collected alotta grease adapters, from tight right angle adapters to Cat track adapters to many others, a coffee can full of 'em,....
Now a days, I'm down to two grease guns, one is a pistol grip with a tube of 2-4-C in it for bushing type bearings, tie-rod ends, etc,....
The other is my battery powered gun, full of typical chassis/ equipment grease, with a 4' long hose, 'n This coupler,.....
Once snapped on, it don't matter where or how I move/ twist the gun, 'n hose, grease goes where it's supposed too, til I release it's lock,....

I do not miss those beauties, however I have one or two myself. we used them on the crawler frames of a few series of cranes.

Quick update . . . I got a new coupler for the grease gun. It worked better, but not great. I was able to get some grease to flow into the bearings. Once done, the grease gun went right in the trash.

I have better grease guns at the summer house . . . probably will need one for my primary home from time to time.

I checked the tongue weight (about 10%) and the tire pressure. So, it should be ready to go this weekend.

My 2024 GMC Denali 2500HD has 9 zerk fittings on the front suspension.

Thanks for the heads-up...Got the same (24/2500HD) black beauty in the driveway.
Over the years of changing ball joints here and there on the 06 dodge charger, the new joints come with a zerk fitting where OEM didn't have.

It's funny how you can be using grease guns for years, and then there's this...I think it took me till about 10 years ago to realize these things are adjustable lol!

Then there's getting them just right on adjustable...Too tight or to loose it seems at all the wrong times.

How do some of you guys get past the air pockets such as when you put a new grease cartridge, it won't pump right away to where you are either fiddling with the little air valve up top or removing the grease cartridge again to clean the area and try again.

Answering my own question here...Probably should have studied the directions that come with them vs fight with it to get it to work half the time.
Tip: If your grease gun has an air bleeder valve, you will not need to unscrew the gun barrel. Unscrew the air bleeder valve at the top of the gun three or four turns. A popping sound should be audible as the follower plate moves upward. A small amount of grease may emerge from the air bleeder valve. At this point close the air bleeder valve and wipe off any grease.

My 1948 Pontiac has 36 grease fittings and 6 needle fitting points. Offen thought of going to an Jiffy Lube (if they still exist) for a lube job and have the attendant count the fittings. Then send him back under if short.

They will never get past twenty......Mabey even 18 or 19 depending whether they lost any digits over the years !!

Hint.....Oscar Zerk (who invented the fitting) worked at Alemite.

You answered your own question but here is the grease gun I use. It's not a cheap gun but the best I have ever bought. I went on a site that did a comparison of grease guns and this is the one they liked. It has a bleed/priming button you depress to get the air pocket out.

I’ve got an original old one of those, it was given to me by a family friend who used to run his own limo business here in LI, he’s 94 years old so who knows how old this thing is!

I’m still using my grandfather’s grease gun and it’s still going strong. It’s got be 70 years old or more. Now I’m curious and may have to look into tracking its age.

No issue to reach after you turn the steering wheel so it becomes accessible.

I was reading all the horror stories how hard some of them were to reach so I actually bought a few 90 degree zerks to fix that supposed issue. When I went to grease the truck, all I had to do was move the steering a few times and everything was easy.

Have the lock-n-lube as Bondo mentioned and it works well

The Heavy Equipment forum posted one by Macnaught which uses one in a T-shape. I pickup one and it's a bit easier to use with one hand then the LnL, issue is I have some deep zerks. Looking further I then found they also make one which is longer. Go figure
