Aren't you supposed to make sure to mount the puck/antennae at least three feet from the vhf? that may only be for a gps/sonar combo, but thought I'd see.

I have my VHF in my cuddy cabin where i can reach in and grab it if i need to...my gps/fishfinder and the waas puck would be mounted pretty much right above the vhf but will have the wood and fiberglass and everything in between....will this cause a problem with my gps?

Re: Gps

My last post was a list of the WAAS Satellites that can be seen from the USA.
Each one has a link and if you click on the link and scroll down the page to the world map then use your mouse to mark your position in the world it will tell you if you can see that WAAS satellite or if it is over the horzion. It will also tell you the AZIMUTH in degrees from your position and The Elevation Above the Horizon.

I checked and the 1st and last links you posted were the only ones that say "below the horizon"

Yes they can be below the Horzion but it all depends on where you are on earth. They are straight up for some people.

The real key is the elevation of the WAAS birds. If you have some at a high elevation then you probably do not need a external antenna on most boats. External antenna I belive is always a little better than the internal as it can be mounted where no satellites will be blocked by structure on the boat or a electronics or by a person standing steering.

Mounting the puck antenna at least 3 feet from the VHF should have no effect at all. They operate on far difference frequencies and I do not think either would interfeer with the other. However I would not mount right next to my VHF antenna where you have a ERP of about 100 watts on most boats.

You VHF antenna should not be mounted closer than 3 feet from your VHF radio as the transmited signal could overload the internal oscillators and cause the radio to loose its Phase lock Loop.
