I just purchased a new Lowrance 5300 GPS and a Navionics Hot Maps for the West. Today I got it hooked up just to test if it would come on and to see if the Navionics lakes I need were on the map. Everything seemed good with the exception that Yale Reservior in Washington, which I have fished regularly this year showed a depth of 70' to 80' on the Navionics chip. The deepest part of the lake being at the dam was 110'.
The problem is when I was fishing Yale I was getting depth reading of 120'+ on my Humminbird Wide View in areas that Navionics lists as only 60'. I have reasons to suspect that the depth reading on the Humminbird may be double of the actual depth. When I had a reading of 100' or more, I was setting the downrigger for 80' and would lose my hook, line, and sinker.
Has anyone else had bad digital reading on their fish locators? I am not getting any screen echos like 2 bottom readings.
