gps help

i need some advice on gps plotters/fish finders. i have an eagle nav 2 that came with my boat. i am new to boating and am really green. the problem with my current one is loosing sat signal all the time. i am currently fishing and boating on lake Erie if that helps. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Man I don't know what to tell you. I have limited information from you and I am not standing beside, nor inside your boat observing your problem.

I have a POS Magellan Explorer GPS that I paid $99 for and just works great. Picks up 7 satellites when I energize it and I can go down to the Cajun (South Lousiana) swamps and it will show me how to get out. I can walk down my driveway at 2.4 mph and it shows me that.

What more can I do for you.

Does the unit work correctly at home away from the water? The only two reasons that come to mind without knowing more details are an antenna problem. Lakes are bad fro reflections and false readings. The other is a defective oscilator in your unit. Dropping enough SVs to a point of losing tracking is not normal. There should be a screen with SV signal strength displayed. Does that show strong signals?

not sure gonna uncover the boat tomorrow and hook every thing up. i looked at the manual that i got here and it says that it should be hooked directly to battery with 3a fuse. i remember when i would start the boat i lose power to gps. so I'm gonna try and re wire the power and ground. along with trying to pull the cable from the head unit and check for bear spots or breaks. will report what i find.and again thanks for the help
