Re: Got pulled over.

You may have gotten stopped "Because" of the girls in the bikini's. Seriously. If you were a cop and you pretty much could pull over anyone for not being seated while underway who would you pick??

Re: Got pulled over.

I just keep reading this thread title and thinking you were pulled over in a car.

I am not the grammar police, but I would call this "being stopped" not pulled over. Cars pull over, boats stop.

When I tell people that the DWF stopped me, I say "I was out running on the jet ski and was stopped by the wildlife in fisheries." I wouldn't say they pulled me over or people will think I was in a car.

Just an observation. No big deal.

I thought about that but everyone around here at work when i said i got stopped out on the lake they looked at me with a dumb look on their face.. when I say yea i got stopped by the Oklahoma state trooper.. they are like Ahh you got pulled over by the cops... so I just went with it.. everyone knows what I mean and I do not have to keep explaining it.

Yeppers, one day within one hour we had the Coast Guard stop and "inspect" for safety.
Then the Fish and Wildlife officer stop and "inspect" for fish.
Then the local sheriffs patrol boat stop and "inspect" for both.

And the better looking and skimpier the bikini's means those stops are gonna take longer than expected.

If I had my police scanner on the boat, I bet I would have heard some code 10-** and our coordinates being broadcast.

Re: Got pulled over.

2 weeks ago on the jet ski, they stop the jet ski's all the time on my lake, because there's so many idiots on them, so for 2 weeks I've been expecting to get pulled over, and nothing. Stopped at the sand bar and my dad "cops stop you yet?" "nope, been past them over and over and nothing"

2 mins later heading to a buddies dock I got stopped. I was following my friend in his boat underneath a bridge (no wake) and I ended up getting too close to him, it was my own stupid fault, cop was nice as he stopped and said "how close are you supposed to be to other boats?" "not that close." "but how close?" "150 ft from boats and people in the water and 100 ft from everything else." quick safety inspect and have a nice day. He was doing his job and happy to be stopped for doing something I shouldn't have, tells me he's paying attention and not just floating around.

Re: Got pulled over.

Everyone has a peeve about something, running to close to docks and other boats are very valid. But my biggest one when the water is concerned is the "they were just looking to write tickets so they stopped me for no reason" one. They have a reason, a right, and an obligation to stop you for "no reason", or they wouldn't be there. Their presence should be welcomed.

I read it all the time on here and I try to keep my fingers to myself for the most part:rolleyes:...but come on:mad:. They check for your safety as well as the safety of others. Unlike the occasional road side safety check, patrol is on the water on any given day at any given time. We all know this:confused:. You do not need to be acting stupid to get checked, the officer does not need to write a ticket so he stops you hoping to find a violation. They are much happier people when they DO NOT find violations. Take the stop, be courtious, show them what they want to see, and go on about your day.

OK, I feel better now:redface:.

Re: Got pulled over.

It is very easy for an operator to not know when someone "tumbles overboard". Especially with non savvy boat riders aboard. They can be clueless and don't seem to understand the danger. I can understand and appreciate the law.

I was pulled over, a couple of weeks ago, on Saguaro Lake, AZ. I was in my Whaler. They thought I was another Law Enforcement Officer that didn't "Check in". Funny, I thought. We had a chuckle and I was on my way. They thought it was helpful for me to be out there. A BW looks like "Cop Boat" no matter how you congigure it.:D

Yea they was very nice and even showed me where in the reg book where it stated about the sitting down underway... thing is they never even checked my safety equipment. I.E.. the flares or fire extinguisher.. just stopped by and let me know what I was doing and told me not to worry its hard to know every boating rule there is.. very polite but was tied up to us for about 15 minutes..

The one thing about basic Whalers is you can't hide anything. There is NO storage-period.

I think the nice folks from Sherrif Joe's office, (Maricopa County, AZ) took one look around and said-Have a Nice Day!:D

Plus, I was wearing my PFD, adding to my "Cop Look"!!!!!

Re: Got pulled over.

2 years ago I was on the water with the girl i was dating at the time. I got stopped by Wisconsin DNR. He said i was going to fast through the no wake zone, when i know i wasn't. When i went by him he had another boat stopped, by the time i got to the end of the no wake zone he was on top of us. He checked for the usual life vests and fire extinquisher. My girlfriend noticed the one guy had his eyes on our cooler the whole time. I've been out a lot this season and (knock on wood) never been stopped. Almost every time i went out i would see the sherriff.

I'm glad to see they have stepped up presence on the water, last year i saw nothing.

Re: Got pulled over.

I was "pulled over" by a Coast Guard 41 footer last year for taking photos of them while underway. They were actually pretty funny - pretty much all kids, even the Petty Officer who was the coxswain.

The first thing they did was to try to get me to tie off to them using their mooring lines ..... which were about an inch in diameter and would have never fit on my cleats. They then told me that they stopped me because I "might be a terrorist" and wanted to know "who I worked for."

I really don't mind being stopped, so I didn't get uptight. Instead, I explained that I am a photographer and a former member of the active duty USCG. The fact that I am pretty active in volunteer SAR activities and have a bunch of local phone numbers for the USCG in my cellphone contact list, made them relax as well.

Being interrupted can be sort of a pain, but look at it this way - if they stop and detain some moron that might have injured or killed someone else, the rest of us benefit.

We usually go to Dirtybird on the weekends... If we get some giddup in our step we run down to arbuckle or murray... But we got "pulled over" on Dirtybird.
