Everyone has a peeve about something, running to close to docks and other boats are very valid. But my biggest one when the water is concerned is the "they were just looking to write tickets so they stopped me for no reason" one. They have a reason, a right, and an obligation to stop you for "no reason", or they wouldn't be there. Their presence should be welcomed.
I read it all the time on here and I try to keep my fingers to myself for the most part

. They check for your safety as well as the safety of others. Unlike the occasional road side safety check, patrol is on the water on any given day at any given time. We all know this
. You do not need to be acting stupid to get checked, the officer does not need to write a ticket so he stops you hoping to find a violation. They are much happier people when they DO NOT find violations. Take the stop, be courtious, show them what they want to see, and go on about your day.
