So was out at the lake yesterday with some friends and the kids and my buddy was driving and I was tubing and looked behind us and Yep we was getting pulled over by a state trooper out there. I have never in my 30 years of boating been pulled over before..

I did not know this but it is illegal for anyone to not be sitting down when your going faster than idling in oklahoma. They was very nice and said its hard to know every rule there is and just gave us a warning... Im sure it didnt help that my g/f and my buddies g/f was in bikinis....

Anyone been pulled over for something they didnt know was illegal???

Re: Got pulled over.

Some jerk of a sherrif pulled me over for creating a wake. I have been boating in this area for years. I was in the ICW and past the "Resume normal operation" sign. This jerk stopped me for no wake area going into a marina.
No ticket, just aggravation. No one else to stop on a weekday.

That usually doesn't pertain to operator's, just passengers...too easy for someone to fall overboard or into the steering area causing sudden control issues etc. etc....ever been knocked around while anchored or drifting, by someones wake unexpectedly?

I was 'pulled over' years ago for undersized vehicle registration numbers on the hull, and learned then there is also a contrasting color clause to boot...rules..grrrr when they offend us, joy when they effect those who are bothering us. :D

I Guess not sitting down was the wrong word... She was sitting but not on a seat she was sitting on top of a cushion table that turns into a changing room...but the good news was all the kids got a floating key ring for having their life vests on..

sounds like he was pretty cool about it. never hurts to have pretty girls in bikinis to distract them. LOL
here you can't be sitting on the gunwales or the backs of seats or tables as well.

Yea about 10 minutes before he "pulled us over" there was a huge cuddy whip by us by about 50 feet with a kid around 10 years old sitting up on the bow... I asked them if that was legal and they said no but they see it all the time.. I know one thing I wish them luck next week its ALWAYS crazy on labor day weekend.

that is one of my pet peeves, when someone is creating a wake to close to the dock.

Re: Got pulled over.

I wish the State Police did the patrols on our waterways here in PA. The PAFBC (Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission) is a commission created by the state and has nobody to answer to except the board of commissioners who are appointed by the governor for non-expiring terms. There is no recourse as a citizen/voter here to express your opinion or views without being discounted, although PSP (Pennsylvania State Police) are a very professional bunch that adhere to their duties in good manner and detail.

Just had to rant, sorry for getting off topic...........

yup. he said people don't like it when their boats ride against the docks. when first off i have a very light ski boat. 2nd maybe they should get a boat lift if they don't want their poor boats to ride up on the dock:confused:

Re: Got pulled over.

A 10 foot row boat with a 6hp motor can create a wake enough to rock boats.
Remember, if a boat gets damaged from YOUR wake, YOU are reliable for those damages.

We have an idiot neighbor out at the cottage that will some times go between the dock and the raft with his Malibu and send out a nice wake within 50-75 feet from the dock, and the wake will move our pontoon, and wrench the dock, so we will have to re adjust it.
Other than that, even during storms we get waves, but the waves don't have the momentum wakes do from boats, and when they come from over 100 feet they loose momentum, where within 100 feet they have more momentum to do damage.
So people aren't going to spend hundreds of dollars on a boat lift just so you can make waves as close to shore as remotely possible

Re: Got pulled over.

Just got pulled over this past saturday for no reason at all....

It was the US Coast Guard in a gunboat... and had a guy on the machine gun turret up front and everything... I was like WTH???

Me in my little 14'10" BR is such the drug runner, or whatever they thought it was...

They said "safety inspection" checked my gear, and lemme go cause everything was up to snuff...

Was just frustrating, as they were surely just looking to write some tickets.

Scared my passengers half to death though!

I hadnt been stopped in 10 years though, so i guess i was overdue. /shrug

Re: Got pulled over.

I just keep reading this thread title and thinking you were pulled over in a car.

I am not the grammar police, but I would call this "being stopped" not pulled over. Cars pull over, boats stop.

When I tell people that the DWF stopped me, I say "I was out running on the jet ski and was stopped by the wildlife in fisheries." I wouldn't say they pulled me over or people will think I was in a car.

Just an observation. No big deal.
