Last week on my first trip out on the Hudson River I realized that after I filled my 6 gal gas tank up at the gas station I left the cap on the gunnel.

So the smell of gas was reeking and I used a small plastic bag and a rubber band to put over it,

This same NY State Launch was right next to a marina so I puttered on up to it and went in to see if they carried these plastic caps. The owner said I was the 3rd person to ask for one of those. She went over to a plastic 6 gal tank and took one off.

She looked up the price and said that will be $16 . . . . YOUCH  After clutching my heart, then my wallet, I paid her since I didn't want to take a chance on becoming yet another boating statistic. I went back to the boat, put it on my tank and started cruising away from the dock.

Of course, 30 secs later I spot my missing cap rolling around the deck :(

I know I could have just gone back and returned the new one to her, but she was nice enough to take one off another tank and it did not ruin my day, so I figured I'd just keep her $16 cap now as a spare.

Adding insult to injury was a flyer that just came from West Marine in the mail where they are selling a complete 6 gal tank, with a built in gauge (I don't have a gauge) and it even comes with a "cap" for $19.99.

This marina should at least as a courtesy include a small tube of vaseline with their caps :D :) :D

Haha, but I doubt it. She knows exactly what the books prices are. At this marina that same 6 gal plastic tank is probably $75.99.

She takes her cost of the tank and multplies it by 12 months and than divides that number by the 4 months shes open :D

plus tax of course!
