Good News
The broker handling the sale of my 1999 Chris*Craft (for the past 12 months) called to say we finally have a buyer. It's the only firm offer I've gotten.

Bad News
The buyer is paying half what I paid for it 3 years ago.

Good News
The boat will be travelling to Europe

Bad News
It's the only member of the family that can afford the trip...

Seems a little early in the season to be jumping at a lowball offer.

Even though the boat was priced pretty aggressively, there were ZERO offers last year. A sitting boat deteriorates, and this is an 'as-is' deal. Cost of winterizing, dewinterizing, registration renewal is due this month, insurance is coming due in May... I can't afford to sit on it any longer.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, I am not running for office, unless I feel there are enough votes out there for victory ...

Congratulations on selling your boat.... Florida is loaded with boats for sale. Your boat happened to be one in a million to be sold.

Aye, there's the rub. The used boat market (as we all know) started a big downward slide at the end of 2007. I've bought 2 boats (the first was the Chris*Craft at the end of 2008) on the way down. I think it bottomed last year and is now poised for a comeback, but IMO, fuel prices will depress the recovery for cruisers in 2012. I've seen the same boats advertised on CL for 3 years running now- and they're boats that any reasonable person would think would be long gone.

If I hung onto it until 2013 I might do better, but the boat's been mostly sitting on a trailer for the last year and a half. Everything was working when it went into mothballs, but I can't guarantee that's the case any longer. The buyer's offer is frustrating, but it's being taken as-is. No survey, no sea trial, no possible repairs and no more fixed expenses. It costs me $1000-1500. a year just to hang onto it. Time to let it go.
