Sat afternoon I got the call no parent wants. My daughter was in a car wreck. The guy driving just wasn't paying attention and turned left in front of a car. I don't know how fast the car was going but it was a 55 mph zone. No drugs no booze just not paying attention. The car t-boned the passenger side where she was sitting. The only reason I can figure she is alive is because she was not wearing a seat belt. The seat she was sitting in ended up being 8 inches wide. The rescue squad guys I saw at the hospital said it was one in 10,000 that she isn't dead. She has some stitches and I am flying her to a friend who is a dentist to get some new teeth. Other than that she is black and blue all over. The girl who was in the back seat is was not so lucky. As of yesterday she is still in ICU.

kahuna123, I am so sorry to hear of your daughter being involved in such an awful car accident like that. Thankfully she made it through it all. Just know that all our thoughts and prayers here on iboats will be with her to continue onwards to a full recovery.

Same thoughts and feelings for the friend in the back seat.

Wow, that's scary. Bad enough to know your own kid was in a wreck, worse if she's the one in ICU. All prayers and best wishes on a speedy and full recovery for both girls, Kahuna.

Things can happen so quickly, and nobody ever expects it. I'm glad your daughter is doing well and I also pray for speedy recovery for all involved. Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow, but we all assume it will be there for us... God Bless everybody...

Young people are resilent and the physical healing should be quick. The mental healing may take more time. Thankfully no one was lost.

I haven't told anyone this other then Art, but I guess seeing how you have just gone through it maybe its time for me to get it off my chest, kind of ironic..

October I think, I go into work on a Wednesday which is our overlap day so we are double staffed in the jail and I just didn't have it so I asked for the day off, I went home and crashed on the couch about 1430 hours, at around 1530 I got a phone call from my oldest daughter, she is in panic mode, tells me she just wrecked her truck and she is in an ambulance and on the way to the hospital and she has to go...

Click..

I call her back and tell her to give the phone to the paramedic who gives me what he can, she was ejected, truck flipped, State Patrol and the SO is on scene, your daughter has a broken leg and is having trouble breathing but I think its bruising and not life threatening, going to the hospital for further, see you when you get here..

so in 5 minutes on the phone I get dressed run out the door and get 15 miles north of my home headed the 80 miles north to where she is..

I used some friends to get me to the SO Sgt. on scene and he gives me the run down, apparently my daughter was in a hurry, she was late for a luncheon with some of her college Deans etc and in her rush she missed the turn on a well traveled dirt road she drove twice a day from home, she corrected, the truck came back and she over corrected and hit an embankment which launched the truck into the air and rotated, after the first roll she came out the drivers side window, she watched the truck from the ground roll 1/2 times and land on its cab, crushing it but stopping its roll, 6 feet from my daughter.

Art knows I have struggled with my Spirituality over my years, but I have no explanation other then I thank God for watching over my Daughter. I still do not understand what went into the ifs and whys, If I had to go into the jail I wouldn't have been there when she called, if my daughter hadn't been ejected would she survive the cab crushing, If the truck hadn't stopped rolling would I still have my daughter, so many ifs...

I feel your pain Kahuna, your family is in our thoughts and prayers..
Thank you Art.

I guess I forgot the important part...

My daughter is fine now, she had surgery to repair two breaks in her lower left leg, bruised shoulder, lung and hip from landing on the ground I think, she must be my kid since most likely her head broke the window she came out and yet her head never hurt. Insurance replaced the truck and covered the medical bills and she is off and limping (still has a cast on).

I did really good to keep it together through the mess. I woke up Sunday morning and it really hit me how close I came to losing her. Its all good now and she will be OK. The other girl was released this morning.

Never take life for granted.

Re: God's not done with you yet

back in 2005 I was getting ready for work when there was a knock at the door, when I opened it there were 2 troopers, I saw my wifes purse in one hand and her license in the other. they told me I should sit down, but I already had an idea what was going on. she had hit a deer then rolled across the median. cause of death blunt force trauma. yep, never know when god will call you. I think what if I hadn't fixed her jeep, she would have been driving my car it would have stayed on all 4 and not flipped. I think why did I buy her the jeep knowing they where dangerous, I mean just because it was what she wanted, I didn't have to give in, I understand the what ifs, I get them still. I'm glad to hear everyone is ok and recovering. tomorrow isn't promised.

Re: God's not done with you yet

Kahuna, I've lived your nightmare. It was 2:30 a.m. when the call came. Our son had been t-boned by a drunk that ran a red light. The wife and I were 100 miles from him and couldnt get there fast enough. By the grace of God he wakled away with only a few bad cuts and a bruised kidney from the airbag in the seat.

When I saw his car the next day, I sat down on the ground and cried because in my minds eye, I couldnt understand how he walked away from it like he did. Gods hand and that little Honda Civic is why he wasn't hurt any worse.

Prayers to you and your daughter.

Yeah, that was when it hit me also, I saw my daughter at the ER and while she was shook up I was at ease the State Trooper and the SO Sgt. both came to check on her while I was there and both asked to talk to me in private and both thought highly of her and reassured me, the ER staff of course was incredible. Later I went to the impound lot to recover her things from the truck(by myself) and after a few minutes it was like my knees disappeared I hit the ground and cried for awhile.

Good to know everyone has been released and is on the road to recovery Kahuna!

Coolbri, I am so Sorry for your loss...

Man! Coolbri - that's hard to hear about. Very few words for something like that.

Makes you remember how important it is to love the ones ya' have while ya' have 'em.

Re: God's not done with you yet

kahuna, glad your daughter and her friend are out of the hospital and doing well. Yes, there are always a lot of "what ifs?" Whether the person is unhurt, unhurt and lives, or dies, the what if's are there. Life is not a guarantee, it is a gift, some say that is why today is called the PRESENT. It is important that we don't take those close to us for granted.

I have had the miraculous happen to me with an accident (on a couple of occasions). I have had friends and family members escape tragedy and have lost some just as coolbri did, which is always difficult, sorry for your loss, coolbri. But we need to remember to embrace today and the ones around us. For some of us, that also means embracing our Creator, giving us a reason to follow His path for us.

To kahuna, to Lipp, to coolbri, hang in there, brothers. And to all of my iboats friends, thank you for being there when I have needed a shoulder to lean on or a helping hand. You all rock!

And Lipp, you are welcome.
