Anybody tow with or have a GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid?

The admiral and I are looking for a 1/2 ton SUV with 3rd row seating. She test drove a non-hybrid Denali and loved it? We like the advertised mpg's of the hybrid? We currently have a 1999 4runner and up until she drove a 2013 today, she loved them...

Any input? Any anecdotal stories to share?

I liked the pep of the 6.2L (hybrid is 6.0L), not sure if the long-term prognosis for hybrid in the 1/2 variety is a good idea?

Thanks,
~Brett

Re: GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid

We Love ours and it tows well with lot's of power to spare but the problem is if your looking for brand new then you won't be able to buy a new chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon Hybrid as they are no longer available for 2014. But you can still buy a 2014 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid at $80-90K. I had read that they are gearing up for a newer type of Hybrid technology in 2015 or 2016.

There's some additional info inside this thread you may like to see too.:)

I don't know what the Denali towing or mileage numbers are, but a new Jeep Grand Cherokee with the ECODiesel is rated at 30 MPG and 7200# towing. It's less bucks than a Denali, too. A loaded GC is around $53K, Yukon Denali starts at $65K

Thanks for the replies...

I should have stated "used" looking at 2008-2009 Yukon Denali's Anything new is too rich for my taste! I like the idea of a Jeep GC, just not the size? I want bigger.

Re: GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid

Third row seating has been the downfall of GM product lines in this category, taking it out and putting it back in, storing it. I think the ford product will fold down into the floor eliminating all that effort to use maybe the Italian one's too as stated above. Maybe the new one's are different but check out the Ford Expedition to see if it fits your style, my sister has one loaded, and it's every bit as nice as the one's you speak of. And I'm a Chevy guy through and through, but would not buy the Tahoe for this very reason. I love my Avalanche, but they are done, and it doesn't have 3 row seating either.

Well....... I made a move from my 2000 V6 4Runner to a 2007 Sequoia with the 4.7 V8. I got my third row seating and all the whistles and bells too. Here is the kicker........ my V8 gets a bit better MPG then the V6 did. The 4.7 is more than enough power and my wife loves the ride too.

The Admiral's new ride!!!

2008 Yukon Hybrid 4x4
38,700 miles. 3rd row seating, navigation, sunroof/moonroof, heated seats, brand new Michelin Tires. The admiral is very happy with it! Compared to her 4Runner (she had for 10 years), it's like driving the living room couch!

Very, very clean!!

Very nice bajaunderground. That one sure has some low miles on it. Our 08 2x4 just turned 55,555 miles on Saturday.

Don't have many photos of it but here is one on kind of a rare event here in so-cal, it was hailing.:rain: The other with the boat behind it. Oh and yes, the stickers are removable.:D

Very nice looking Hybrid there. I'm gonna put some 20" wheels on it in the next few months, might wait until next year as the Michelins that are on it are brand new?

we drove 5 different "models", all 4x4 (we are in Colorado after all!).
*2008 Yukon Denali (6.2L), wife likes but at 13mpg city...no way!
*2008 Yukon (89,100 miles, black, $31,499, but advertised on CL for $24,489?, way over priced for the miles and the dealership's ability to "negotiate" border-lined on retardation)
*2008 Tahoe Hybrid (6.0L, 31,300miles, $31,500, very nice and clean, just we knew we could find similar for less and negotiations stalled at $28,500)
*2010 Tahoe LT (black with 71,100miles, leather, fairly clean, no navigation nor rear entertainment, $25,999)
*2008 Yukon Hybrid (the one we decided on), asked $25,998, gave us what we asked for on trade-in, so a good deal)

My wife did tons of research on Consumer reports, and various other feedback places...we saw many, many with over 110K miles that still drove very nice, just too many miles on 'em and way over priced! My wife drive 12,000miles religiously, so with good maintenance and an easy foot we should get 8 years out it without too much "extra" costs! It's towing capacity is 6,000lbs, our boat with trailer is ~3,350lbs and our camper has a dry weight of 4,895lbs so for some trips without boat, the Yukon will tow...for most trips she'll tow boat, I'll tow camper. Funny, my 4.0L V6 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off-road Double cab is rated to tow 6,500lbs, yet the huge 6.0L V8 Yukon is only rated 500lbs less. Of course my gearing is 3.73 and her's is 3.42. My little V6 stock, pumps out 237HP/276lb.ft or torque, before my TRD Cold-Air intake (~10% gains according to some sources?).

Enjoy the new ride. We also tow with a hybrid but it is a Lexus RX400h. The hybrid tows much better than the non hybrid. Especially when pulling the boat out of the water at the ramp. Just a little gas (1200 rpm or so) and the electric motors kick in pull everything up the ramp with zero drama.

Nice pick up. I never see the Hybrid on the road. I realize it is the case and because Boating Magazine did a towing test with your exact truck years back and I took notice but the low tow rating still baffles me. BTW my wife's newer 5.3 Liter suv won't touch 13mpg in the city and got a whopping 16 on long, all highway trips not towing.

CAI = +10%? The answer is absolutely not. Long tube header gain you 15% on a dyno. CAI is almost nil.

Like yours, I'm sure? There's a readout on the dash that gives current mileage and "mode" In V4 Mode on the highway/flat roads we're seeing 24-25+MPG, however, up hill I saw 6-7MPG. The average for the vehicle is 17.1MPG and the 2 others we drove were 18.5mpg averages? This is a 2 mode, so it can use just electric (below 30MPH), 2 mode, both gas and electric (anytime conditions are right?) and uphill, accelerating (and I assume towing) it all gasoline motor...Time will tell if the mileage is worth it?

It'sw pretty cool when in 100% electric motor...feels kinda like a golf cart, very quiet! sneaking around a parking lot!

My In-laws had one for a brief period and sold it, I wish at the time we could have bought it since it was a remarkable vehicle (we bought a New Subaru Crosstrek instead).

Baja: Congrats on the Yukon Hybrid, Keep us posted on the MPG's as I'm curious what you will average for the local runs/ exc. I'd hope GM will bring back the Hybrid with the new generation and maybe sell in volume.
I'd believe the lower tow rating is due to the vehicle being geared/ marketed toward MPG rather all out towing power, It's a balance and having owned a 2002 Tahoe, I don't think I'd want to go much over 6K consistently with this SUV anyways.

The vast majority of CAI's actually cause you to LOSE power, not gain, at least without fairly extensive additional tuning... (at least for any MAF based engine, speed/density based computers are much more tolerant of CAI mods, but they are also rarely seen anymore in a modern engine.)

People underestimate how important a well designed intake system is for the overall function. Replacing a single piece can change how the air flows/swirls through the system, which can throw the MAF readings off dramatically one way or another.

Yeah, I've heard/read different accounts...having never dyno'd I'm not really sure?! I tend to believe TRD's marketing and from the seat-of-the-pants feel, it certainly felt peppier?

It's a TRD model of CAI...they claim it's been dyno'd...who knows?! I tend to believe a factory supported aftermarket over a 3rd party?

Here's the brochure? Anyway, don't need a pissing match over who thinks they know more? It's in and I'm not removing it...as they say "it is what it is?"

Wasn't trying to be critical... sorry if I came off that way. It was just FYI stuff. The reason I mentioned it is because I actually do run short ram CAIs and have real world dyno experience with them. Awesome looking ride, BTW. :)
