Re: GMC Sierra 1500, RAM 1500 or who is the best?

I wonder how we ever survived the first 100 years of cars and trucks?

You actually had to "drive" the vehicle.
I can't count how many cars and trucks I see upside down every winter. And we have six months of winter.
If anyone thinks electronics will save them from stupid driving, they may have some hard lessons coming.

Well ignoring everyone on the road...I could drive like the biggest, clueless idiot and the electronics correct a lot of the stupid errors. The same reason you could set up a obstacle course up on a snowless, frozen lake and drive like a pro and never hit a cone.

Nah, I've done many seasons of ice racing on frozen lakes. Put an idiot with the hightech suv next to an old 510 with a good driver (studded tires being equal) and the 510 will win every time. If you can't slide the rear you will never get enough exit speed to launch to the next corner.
I saw two more vehicles in the ditch on my way into the city today. One on its roof. And on it goes......

lets see....... I have at the moment a dodge ram 1500..... and a ford f150.... I did tow originally with a GMC yukon slt 1500 xl.... So which do I prefer.... which is best?? well the trucks are better than the SUV which is basically the GMc seirra with seats in the back LOL... according to the GMC dealership.... but with softer suspension.... I tow a boat, 1993 stratos bass boat, and also horse trailer...... The ford.... a little spongy in the rear..... nice on power smooth too... The dodge nice power smooth gear changes.... rear doesnt move at all when the boat or horse trailer is attached.. not as soft as the ford suspension... In reality I dont mind which of the trucks I use.... I dont really see any bad points with either..... If you are a home mechanic .... then look under the hood see which is easier to mend..... for example.... Both trucks had leaks from the water pump in the last few months.... I repaired the ford ... a mechanic repaired the Dodge... I could get the fan off the water pump.... Parts wise basically the same..... I cannot say one is so much better than the other .... to me they are the same... they tow the same boat the same horse trailer with easy and its a matter of which keys I gab as to which i use.... Or the Dodge as my wife likes "her" ford . To be honest if you are just towing a boat and not using it every day to tow it really is whats you feel looks best to you ..
Every truck maker has good and bad reviews.... everyone says my truck is this my truck is that... and yours isnt.... there are good fords there are bad fords, good dodges bad dodges.... same with all trucks.... Our Yukon went over 250,000 no tranny rebuild.. and the only things replaced air conditioner and fuel pump at 35,000 miles..... I guess luck of the draw... and maintenance...

I concur 100%! I had a Ford 1/2 ton prior to buying my Dodge 1/2 ton. I myself thought that the Ford road quite soft for a truck...which some people like. I don't at all. I bought the Dodge for the very stiff suspension and the solid front axle. Old school tried and true engineering that is easy to repair and has less moving parts than a truck with IFS. The dodge also does not have push button 4 wheel drive. I hate that crap. So yes it is all just a matter of personal preference and what you actually need the truck to do for you.

Saw several of those this winter...too much speed and no anticipation that the section of road ahead may be icy even though the one you are on now isn't. Bummer is all the stability control in the world doesn't help you stop any faster.

This was more my point than trying to "punk" jkust. We have grown so acustom to the car doing everything for us that we have forgotten how to actually drive. I have an old Jeep that I love driving because it is raw, it is lifted, it is unsafe as hell, but I drive it, it doesnt drive me. We have a Saab Viggen convertible and I turn off the TCS every time I drive it. My TB doesnt have traction control, and I have programmed out most of the torque control. I hate the ABS on all of them. I drive 50k to 75k a year and the fact that cars are so easy to drive nowadays, it gives the drivers a false sense of security. I see people shaving, putting on makup, texting, feet out the window, eating, busy doing everythign but driving on a daily basis. I mean, hell, now we dont even have to parallel park because the damn cars does it for us. Seems to me that when I learned how to drive, I couldnt get a lisence til I could properly parallel park.

I agree with those who said SUV for that load unless you need a truck bed. I'm partial to the Nissan Armada but have friends with the Expedition. Either of those is overkill for that load - but I like overkill :hat:

Folks mentioned the Ecoboost. They're too new for the range the OP mentioned, but folks should check Ford forums, MPG varies and some folks are really unhappy about their mileage. We looked at them, they're pretty powerful for a gasser. They are new so longtime reliability is unknown.
