GMAIL issue !

I go to my G MAIL account and there is a 20 + set of steps I am to read and agree to.............WHAT ?? Information that opens up MORE of my personal facts.
Can someone recommend a simple E MAIL site to deal with. And all my sites have ads every 3 lines. It is a bad company. I want out from them.

Typically your ISP provides email addresses for you as a part of your service (mine gives us 10 accounts). Do you know if you have those through your provider?

Google E-mail accounts does not require you to actually fill in your personal information accurately like signing up for a water bill, ISP, or electric utility.

They are no worse than Yahoo or many other free E-mail providers regarding ads, so I fail to see the issue here.

Now I can see people brining up the privacy matter involving services such as Google maps, which requires people to update the account settings to disable certain convenience features that tracks people's use of that app. That's the nature of using their stuff.

It is personally fine to use made up nickname and bogus details for free E-mail accounts such as Google, Yahoo Mail, etc. Many have at least one of these E-mail accounts so that they use these for privacy reasons for websites such as internet forums or signing up for content they prefer not be bothered on their regular one.

I like Yahoo and have had an account there when they were still at Standford University, long time ago. Changed to Gmail because Yahoo changed and I didn't like it. Really don't like Gmail much at all but it works.

Now Yahoo has come back to old style and have thought many times of going back but changing everything back to old account takes time.

The ads can be cleaned up by using something like Firefox or other. If you use Edge then there is a lot of stuff that use see are ads. I use fire fox and even when I come to iBoats or other forums all I see is blank spaces where is says something like "advertisement"

even without your information being correct, they have your information based on your IP address, the bills you pay, etc.

I was surprised the first time I was emailed my Google timeline years ago, showing everywhere I'd been for the past month on a map and info about the places/businesses/attractions I'd visited.. Big brother is watching and I don't remember signing up for it but probably did in some small print. The services are useful, I'll use Google on my phone instead of a satnav, but the services come at the cost of them gathering info about us that they can analyse, sell to other companies and use to send us targetted adverts.

A few weeks ago my daughter, son in law and grand kids went hiking. They'd told son in law's dad they'd call him at a certain time but had no phone signal at that time. Then son in law had to return to work (he's a truck driver) leaving daughter and grand kids to do a few more miles hiking in a safe area by themselves (but still no phone signal). When the expected phone call didn't come son in law's dad called mountain rescue and police. Helicopters went up, police visited the empty house, they sent messages to daughter's and son in law's phones but the messages were not read because daughter had no signal and son in law was driving his truck. They tracked son in law's phone when he was driving his truck and knew everywhere he'd been, even had pictures from road side cameras of him driving the truck. They pulled son in law's truck over and asked him a few questions, they were not pushy with him just wanted to know the reason why a missing person report had been put in for him and his wife and kids by his dad when he was back at work. Daughter got phone signal again, read all the messages and phoned police to tell them they were all safe. Just a false alarm and no harm done but it shows how much they can track people.

Having grown up and live in the Washington DC area, many of the people I know are in intelligence and cyber security Specialist in both the government and private sectors.

Disclosed capabilities are scary…..undisclosed capabilities make good science fiction movies…lol

Got a phone call at work a couple years ago from a guy I used to work with and had not seen in 20+ years.

Long chat….20 year catch up. Wasn’t until the very end I figured out I was pretty much interrogated.

Turns out he is Head of regional security for Homeland Security. Saw my name come up on an international travel list and decided to follow up personally.

Knowing what I know, I want nothing to do with anything related to Goggle or its products

They have been caught and sued for lying about the amount of information they associate with you while using incognito.

If you’re using a Google product it’s safe to assume they’re tracking almost everything you do and fingerprinting you in some way or another to track you across accounts/products.
