We have a 1972 24 foot Sea Ray weekender with a 350 V-8 and a cobra outdrive. The starter engaged but the belts moved only about a 1/2 inch. We removed the plugs and the same thing happened. WE turned the nut on the fly wheel with a wrench, but it still wouldnt turn over. Is it seized? MY buddies have a 305 from a camero. Would it be possible to use a car engine and hook it up to a old cobra outdrive. Would the car engine move a 25 foot Sea Ray? I told them that they were in La Dee Da Land. That it would't work.

Dave

It's seized all right.

A 305 would be marginal in that boat. Besides, you would have to change a lot of componentry to make it work. Minimum: camshaft, core (freeze) plugs and all the components (marine) from the seized engine.

I think I would disassemblke the seized engine and consider rebuilding it.
