Hello,

Does anyone know what engine family the 3.0L engine that is in most of the I/O's is based on? It looks to me like the 3.0L is a marine specific engine (not found in cars like the 4.3 or the 5.7)... Is this true? I realize that the head is probably specific but I was wondering if any parts were shared with an automotive engine. I am mainly asking from the point of rebuild and performance adding (nothing wild, just optimizing). I'm looking to see what kind of aftermarket parts exists for this...

Thanks,

Originally the 120 was in the Chevy Nova in the mid 60's only. Now, it's a GM industrial engine, found in land based generators and fork lifts along with being a marine engine.
