Re: GM 292 in place of MCM 250

The two engines are a 292, and a 265.

The numbers on the block are as follows:

292 engine:
1970
F320

265 Engine:
56 1968

No idea what all this means. I will clean and brighten up the pics and post them when I get home.

Re: GM 292 in place of MCM 250

I had a 250 in a 67 Chevy pickup and later a 292 in a 68 Chevy pickup.
I would say they were both thirsty but I don't recall the 292 being any worse really than the 250 was.

Now obviously, a boat may be different. Someone needs to try this and report back.

Anyone know offhand what the torque specs on the 165 MC are?

I have often wondered if a 3 liter 5 cylinder diesel from an old Mercedes would have enough jamb to haul a boat around. The normally aspirated 300D engine only made 77 HP but the torque was better than that. Would be some issues with installation obviously.

Hi Guys:

If you follow this link: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=455778 you'll see that one of the members of this forum was nice enough to publish the torque curve for a GM inline 6. As to the Mercedes engine, it sure sounds like a ton of work for unknown results.
