OK guys i have a couple questions for you on a GM 250 6cyl.
This is the first time i have had much exp with this engine. Its my roommates boat that he bought. Boat had issues with it and ended up need the motor rebuilt. he had the machine work all down new head, new exh manifold and so on. I built the motor for him since he didn?t have much exp with building motors and i have done a few.
Any ways fresh motor in the boat put water to the outdrive made sure it pumped water and so on. Everything was going as planed took the boat out ran great stayed cool and so on. next day take the boat out again and the rubber hose from the elbow on the exhaust manifold the runs the exhaust out the outdrive took a crap. so replaced that. then take it back out on the water start laying into the throttle it is sounds like its detonating or not getting enough fuel so i back off on the throttle it slows down a little but still there. I get my gauges oil fine and the water temp is at 180. im used to car motors so that seems normal to me. I slow to an idel and smoke starts coming from the engine bay and the motor dies. Pull the cover off there?s no fire which is good lol. Everything is extremely hot though. Well come to find out the impeller in the outdrive died and over heated the motor and the 180 wasn?t correct do to no water even being in the motor. Ended up being towed back in.
My question after all that what should i check to make sure the motor is ok. We replaced the pump in the outdrive changed the oil pulled the plugs and so on. Motor runs fine doesn?t seem to have any issues but want to make sure everything is ok before we get anymore time on the motor? I also re torqued the head and it was fine to. What else should i check? Comp Check maybe? im hoping we lucked out on over heating it and we will be ok but figured i would ask.
Sorry this got so long and thanks for all the info in advance.
