Gluvit Not Available in Canada

Hi Canucks! I'm trying to seal leaks in my old aluminum Starcraft and found there is a current problem with the supply of Gluvit in Canada. West Marine told me yesterday that the "label police" have quarantined their supply, so I ordered a gallon through Pride Marine (in Canada) to be shipped. Pride called me this morning to say that Health Canada has curtailed sales of the product by the only Canadian distributor. Consequently they no longer have gallon cans, but had 3 quarts left. I tried to split the difference with Pride by offering the gallon price of $170 (cdn) for the 3 quarts, but no go. They said they won't have a problem selling their quarts at $70 each, so I reduced the order to 2 quarts. So there's one left for the taking! I doubt you'd get any shipped here from across the border. Well I guess we'll all be safer now; we'll be on dry land (or will we be sinking?). - Grandad

1 quart will do your whole boat.

Thanks ez. I'm planning to use any surplus after doing the seams for the underside of the plywood flooring. The gallon price was high, but the quart price is ridiculous. I guessed I'd need about 3 quarts to include the flooring, but the price for a gallon was lower than 3 quarts, so I asked for the gallon. At the higher price, I'll see how far 2 quarts gets me. I'll be using Nautolex on the topside, so I don't plan on sealing the top. - Grandad

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use something else on the plywood?

Perhaps it could be done cheaper. Since I've never used this stuff before, I estimated maybe 1 quart is enough to do the seams, but maybe not. I can use up the extra on the plywood. There is a saying in the electrical trade when an electrician over-estimates and wastes a length of wire being pulled into a conduit: "Better to be looking at it, than looking for it."

Just bought (and used) a quart of Gluvit from Pride Marine. Glad you left one for me! Thanks! :)

You're welcome. Just as ezmobee said, I only needed one quart, but bought two just in case. Now I have an extra. Anyone else need a quart while it's still fresh? If you can't find any locally, maybe we can make a deal by PM. Grandad

What's in this stuff that caused it to be banned?
There is lots of nasty stuff that isn't, why this?

The next thing you know they're going to be smuggling Gluvit into Canada instead of cigarettes!;)

Well, I noticed that the instructions on the can are in English only, so maybe the Canadian label police are the reason. And you're right, there's a warning on the can: "This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer." Apparently no other states are aware of this. And since I'm in Canada, eh, no problem. By the way, it has no noxious smell at all. - Grandad

They might be cracking down on cross border shopping due to some ingredient that is on their list of banned products that just changed.

Boat Craft in Edmonton had some which is where I picked mine up.
