I'm getting ready to install carpet in the boat I've working throught the winter.:D Can I use outdoor carpet glue from Home Depot or Lowe's. I've seen that Bass Pro has carpet glue also. One post on the web that I read said to use contact cement. I think I would like something that I can move around before it's stuck fast. Any sugestions? Thanks Kevin

Re: Glue for carpeting ??

What is the substrate? Certainly hope if wood it has been glassed over. I'm thinking that contact cement would be a royal pain if you ever wanted to remove it. Quite possibly the material you mentioned would be a good choice. It would definately need to be waterproof. Obviously not a carpet guru so hopefully someone will chime in with a real answer.
By the way, it you want to move the carpet around contact cement is not the way to go. Once the pieces are placed together - that's all she wrote.

Somebody in one of the other forums suggested using Dap from Home depot. I'm going to be doing the same thing in about a month. Gluing down new carpeting

did my boat last year, make sure you get water proof glue not water resistant there is a difference. i went to a large carpet store here in maryland and they had the glue right in stock i think it was around 18 or20 dollars a gal.my boat is 20 ft. and it took almost 2 gal. do not use contac cement period.

Re: Glue for carpeting ??

i used an out door carpet adhesive from a local hardware store like lowes or
home depot.......
that was about 4 years ago......carpet over a wood fiberglassed deck.

i just removed the carpet cause im doing a total re-fit.

when i ripped up the carpet
the bond was so strong in places the carpet ripped before the glue gave way...i had to grind it off in areas......

use a notched trowel....and you can move the carpet around a little bit after its layed...but once you put pressure on the carpet...its there to stay....

i didnt have a kicker to strech the carpet..or a carpet roller. i just used a big cement brick as a roller.....

cheers
