Lately when catfishing multiple rods, I loosen my drag on my spinning reels until the fish can pull it easily,they all have audible drags.When I hear one clicking I tighten it and check tension and set the hook its worked well in the dark.

Yeah thats pretty much what I do lately. Ive tried to mess with the bells but their a pain and can cause some false alarms on a windy night.
