I'm at that age when watching a pole at night is becoming a challenge. I've been searching for a pole that can withstand the fight of something like a 80-100# sturgeon but with a flexable tip to see a bite of a 2# Striper. Can anyone suggest a site to find a pole that has a Glow in the dark feature? I have thought about the Glow paint. Any thoughts would be helpful.

There is a better way to go.You can get small glow sticks with a rubber boot that you can attach to your rod.they are available at Wal mart and probably many other places where fishing gear is sold.a package is usually 2 or 3 glow sticks(2 inch long) and a boot.for less that $3. This way you can use your favorite rod and always have a light on the tip.
I also use these glow sticks attached to the line next to the hook and yes I do catch more than my lightless buddies.

You can also use a black light with floresent paint on the rod tip. If you are using momo line the black light will light up the line and make it appear as big as your pinky finger.

I night fish and have come up with something better than that yet and you can use any rod you want.

Used to work at a sign shop years ago and they had some 3M white reflective sticker we made signs with, I just cut a strip about an inch wide and wrap it around the rod in 3-4 places, makes the rod easy to see in even the lowest light.

Any sign shop should have it and it can't be more than a buck or two for no more than you would need.

I use the Breakaway Rod tip lights. Uses a std. hearing aide battery as power. Pick the batteries up on E-Bay for next to nothing.

Available in Red, Green and Blue. Comes in handy when you have a couple of guys fishing together

The Ugly Stik catfish poles have a high-visibility tip, which should be easy to see unless there's no light at all.

Not too expensive, either. I really like mine, and have handled catfish and carp over 30 lb with it with no strain. I'd take on a sturgeon with it in a second, and actually plan to this fall during sturgeon season (2 days, I think) in the St. Croix.

Bass proshop sells a surf rods with batteries/lights. Look pretty neat. But the old timer dinner bell works for me.

The battery powered rods appear to be what you may want, it has a very small light that makes the entire rod glow from the inside. Just think of it as mood lighting.

I've looked at those rods that glow. I wasn't too impressed with them. I would suggest using rods you already have (I'm sure you use them because you like them, and if you change rods you might not be very happy with what you change to), and any of the above suggestions. I prefer to use one of those LED lights that clip on your hat. It provides plenty of light to watch rods with, and you'll always be able to see what you're doing on the boat, as well as the fish you're catching, without a bright light. And the batteries last a long time in them as well.

I like the Idea of putting reflective tape on the pole, not adding any noticable weight. I am going to Wally-World to take a look for that Catfish Ugly Stick, Yes I agree, I want to use my favorite pole which I have intimately named "Killer"...:D But I can never have enough "Stuff" to use while fishing. You guys have been great with the responses, keep em coming, it's just gonna cost me money.

I use those catfish ugly sticks. I wouldn't buy anything else for catfishing. I can usually see slight nibbles and they can haul in some large fish too.

Good luck a Wal Mart. I bought most of mine there, but none of the stores in my area have them this year (not that I need any though). I've ordered them from either BassPro or Cabela's before too, though I can't remember which.

Re: Glow in the Dark fishing pole.

another solution is reels with baitclickers when set on free spool or clip on jingle bells. when i fish i often set a dedicated catfish rod with either punchbait or dead cutbait. or dead minnows saved from a previous fishing trip. while i jig for walleye and pike or just sit there with em still fishing. i just like being on the water outside. an audible alert i like better than staring at the rod tips all day or nite.

Re: Glow in the Dark fishing pole.

I go to walmart or dollar tree and buy glow necklaces. I use a bread tie to attach them to the rod tip. They will last several hours. If I am fishing for big catfish, I switch the reel so it will reel out line (turn off the anti reverse) , and make the glow necklaces into a loop that I hang on the reel crank, then I can see if its running out line when something takes the bait in the dark.

Re: Glow in the Dark fishing pole.

Here's my solution. I take an empty perscription container & wrap reflective tape around it. I poke a piece of heavy guage wire thru the cap & shape it into a hook. Once my line is taunt, I hook the gizmo on the line between the lst two eyelets on the pole.
I place a few pennies in the container to ajust the weight to wind conditions or size of fish I'm attempting to catch. If the fish biting are running, the container will pull up to the rod. If the fish are swimming in, the container will start to drop. At night, I just watch the gizmo until it moves...
I say, " whatever works..."

Re: Glow in the Dark fishing pole.

We used to use small bells w clamps to clip them on the rod when catfishing at night.Trouble was we frequently forgot to remove them when they jingled and flung them off into the woods or water(pier or bridge) when setting the hook, ding, ding, ding spash!

I have the ugly stick rods with the glow in the dark eyelets. They only stay lit for a couple of minutes then you cant see them anymore. A bud of mine had the rods with the battery powered lights in the middle but since their hollow they shatter really easy. Your best bet is the rod tip bells unless its really windy then just go with the small glo sticks.

Virtually all rods are hollow.

Not sure which lighted ones you're talking about, but even though the rods aren't great, the ones I've seen haven't had any problems with breaking.

Re: Glow in the Dark fishing pole.

I cant remember the make of the rods he had. I just remember the semi-clear material at the base of the rod began to develop hairline cracks over time. True all rods are hollow, it just seemed like they sacrificed some rod strenght so they could accomodate room for batteries and a light at the base of the rod. Cool concept though, I imagine quality has a huge part to play in that kind of stuff.
