Re: Global Warming Story.

It seems that I remember seeing somewhere that the global temperature is cyclic. This has happened before and will in all probability happen again without any devastating results. Then again I could be wrong and the world is going to end tomorrow.. :D

Re: Global Warming Story.

The sky is falling!!!!! The sky is falling!!! Oh Yea and the Earth is flat. All at one time belived to be true by the best scientist of there time. And if there is global warming going on there will be very little we could do about it. Mother Nature is a beast of unimaginable power, that we have no control over. She will do as she will with the planet and we are just spectators. And scientist invent weapons, find out what happend in the past, But very rarley do they have any clue as to what is truly going on right now. Or for that matter have any knowledge of how to fix something thats broken. Very good monday morning quarterbacks if you will. Inventors fix problems not scientist. And for only $19.99 plus Shipping and Handling..

Re: Global Warming Story.

The more this stuff goes on, the more people is going to find out it is all a money scam. It sure seems that those that agree with each other about it being just a natural occurance gets their funding cut. Then those that have a far fetched theory will get tons of money to justify their theory.

I look at it as if they are doing their best to induce a panic to get the public to spend more money. Shamful, just down right shameful. SO if you don't like the outcome of ones research, cancel their funding and find someone who will satisfy what your wanting. Anymore that seems like the American way.......still shameful.

Re: Global Warming Story.

Some winters are mild, some are really nasty. Some summers are blisterimg and some are cooler. Back in the 70's the rant was global cooling and all the northern ports were going to be iced in. Politicians need to create dissaster to show they care about our welfare even if they have to make something up.

Re: Global Warming Story.

Seems like we need to concentrate on the things we agree with first.

There is agreement that there is significant increase in CO2 in the atmosphere. I think there is general agreement that human activity is the cause of it.

We ought to work on reducing the CO2 if only on the premise that we ought to leave this planet we are on such a short time in the same shape we found it when we got here.

Whether temp increases are just cyclic, or indicative of some greater issue, really makes no difference.

You wouldn't teach your kids that because others have left garbage and litter around, it doesn't make any difference if they do the same, would you?

I don't agree at all that the increased CO2 levels are caused by human activity. I think we need to go back to basic science that matter can not be created or destroyed. That being the case everything in the atmosphere was and is already on earth. Us releasing florocarbons into the air such as freon doesn't make any difference because the freon was/is already here. The increase in CO2 levels are caused by the increased volcano activity and I would think if there was a way to measure the CO2 levels after some of the huge eruptions in the past the data would have been the same.

Re: Global Warming Story.

Ya wanna know whats really funny. I read in TIme magazine while waiting for a haircut that the Bush administration is being accused of bullying the global warming alarmists.

Funny how the media can put their own spin on things.

Anyway, I have yet to hear a really good reason why we should fear global warming. So in the end, who cares.

And also, the easiest way to cut the co2 production is to kill a bunch of people. We make co2 when we breathe. So getting rid of a few million people would make a big difference. I suggest we start with global warming alarmists, then move on to lawyers and polticians. That will also help cause those three groups are responsible for the largest portion of "hot air".

Ken

Re: Global Warming Story.

CO2 is a product of combustion, among other things. And yes, we, along with every other mammal, breathe it out.

And yes, CO2 is necessary for plant life, and photosynthesis to occur.

Either there is, or there isn't, surplus CO2 being produced. That there is seems to be a reasonably general conclusion, except for the noted scientists here at iboats.

I'm not sure what volcanos have to do with anything--they probably produce as much SO2 than CO2, but whatever, it does not negate the notion that there is too much CO2 being produced compared to the amount consumed, and that burning fossil fuels has a goodly share to do with that.

This always seems to break down into some form of economic argument--changing the way we do things may cost money.

You folks seem to have an amazingly cavalier attitude toward the lives of your children and their kids.

I hope the majority of the scientific community is wrong, and you're right. It's quite a gamble to take with other people's lives, IMO

One of the most influential proponents of the "global warming theory" is the Weather Channel. Hardly a day goes by they don't promote it in some way. Makes me long for the days when they just forecast the weather.

Dave

PW2, I love my kids and dont ever gamble with their lives.

But I just dont buy these global warming alarmists spouting out doomsday scenarios.

Besides, we are working on CO2 sinks that will scavange out CO2.

Good info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO2_sink

Ken

I guess that they got the wool pulled firmly over your eyes.

A few years back when Mt Pinatubo (sp?) in the Phillipines erupted, it spewed mega-multi times the amount Chloro-flouro Carbons into the atmosphere than were ever manufactured by man.

The ozone hole ebbs and flows. It began to close up or reduce in size long before any restrictions on freon etc could have had any affect.

Re: Global Warming Story.

I am in the middle of Michael Crichton's "State of Fear" which is his latest novel and is a story of eco-terrorism in the name of global warming. While it is fictional, the sources of the factual information cited in the story are all referenced and are very eye opening. I suggest it for anyone that likes reading looooong novels and is interested in learning more about the science of global warming. It appears to be fairly argued from all sides.

Re: Global Warming Story.

How can they say that Freon is bad for the atmosphere, I seem to remember from High school somewhere that freon is heavier that air. So how does it get up there????????? (Maybe I did listen after all)!!!!!!

I agree but feel the lawyers should go first. :D

Re: Global Warming Story.

Lubedude, I always thought the same thing, then the instructor said "Water is heavier than air and it falls from the sky". There is something about the chlorine molecules attack the Ozone molecules. A theory no doubt, but boy has that theory cost our citizens billions. Also requiring the service industry lots more work dealing with the recovery. I liked the old days, guages, tank, torches, and a vacuum pump. Just about all ya needed.

Re: Global Warming Story.

every day the temperature doesn't get above 12-15 degrees C. and someone is talking about global warming on the TV, I like to rip his lips off his face. Would be a lot of lipless people in Holland by now as they are all aping the same song.

Seems the Canadians got hit in the head with the smart stick. I guess not ALL the experts agree. It seems that Al Gore's supporting scientists seem a little on the less than qualified end of the spectrum. Not the most balanced source, but if the facts of the story are in dispute, just post a counter point.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/6/20/134405.shtml?s=ic
