Re: Global Warming Story.

Many of you on the right seem to subscribe to the theory that you believe to be true what you wish to be true. Kind of an alternate reality.

It is certainly true in Iraq as well. Let's stay the course. Well our military and its tactics have so far in 3 1/2 years have barely been able to secure the green zone---yet we are to believe that things are going so well we will be leaving in no time.

Give your head a shake. Simply wanting something to be true does not in itself help make it true.

It certainly does explain the constant attack mode on the media generally. If you want to be secure in your alternate reality, you have to discount anything that is an affront to that reality---which is practically anything published by any rational objective news source.

Re: Global Warming Story.

PW2,

You have also condemned the right for following instead of questioning. Isn't that also true of Global Warming? Isn't the mainstream opinion that Global Warming is caused by man's use of fossil fuels? Soooooo, can I not assume that questioning this is progressive? Enlightened? Responsible? ;)

Name one "rational objective news source".

I hope no one on here thinks that we are not polluting hell out of our environment. If you are then I suggest you spend a couple of days fishing in the Houston ship channel.

Re: Global Warming Story.

Texashotdog,

The fact that we pollute has nothing to do with the cause and effect of that pollution. It also has nothing to do with the solution. I don't think anyone disputes that we add CO2 and equivalents to the atmosphere. What is in dispute is how much of the increase is from man and whether or not there is any impact (negative or positive) and whether or not there are any reasonable measures to reverse or slow any positive or negative impact . . . This one is far from cut and dried, yet those who stand to benefit from the panic are those who proclaim that there is nothing left to discuss.

You ever wonder what the smog police will do when they cut emissions to zero? You think they're gonna simply find new jobs? My cynical side says they simply have to find a new pollutant to track ;)

Re: Global Warming Story.

How come we never heard that the Ozone hole was smaller this year??????????

Thursday, December 08, 2005
Global Warming Religion Debunked by Science by Mike Hogan

Long ago Aristotle created an Earth-centric model of the solar system. This model was later refined by Ptolemy. This evolving model made man feel important. It justified our importance. And so, when Copernicus came along with definitive proof that the Sun was the center of the solar system, he was castigated by many as a heretic.

Well, now we have a similar situation playing out with the religion of global warming. Or maybe I should call it the big business of global warming. Scientists now demonstrate that it isn’t man who controls how hot it is here on Earth, but (hold on to your hats) the SUN.

That’s right, the Sun is heating things up. Simply put, the Sun has been heating up largely as a result of Sunspot 882 which is 87,000 miles across (as large across as Jupiter). “Earth's North Pole and Mars's South Pole are melting at a surprisingly rapid rate. Even far out Pluto seems to show some melting.” Could it be that our greenhouse gases are blanketing those planets too?

We need to stop clinging to our Ptolemaic view of the climate. We don’t control the climate, we are merely along for the ride. The ice age didn’t end because of Dinosaurs driving SUVs.

Along these same lines:

For Al Gore to call global warming the greatest threat facing mankind, he should be locked up in that lockbox of his.

The Kyoto Treaty is nothing more than a redistribution of wealth overseen by the UN. Industrialized countries (like the US) will have to buy Kyoto credits from the undeveloped countries. Let’s tax progress! Communism didn’t work on a country level, so let’s try it on a global level! And with the corrupt UN (see Oil for food) managing the process. Do people really think that we are that stupid?

Global warming and hurricanes? You might as well blame it on the god of the sea, Neptune. The increase in frequency and strength of hurricanes is the result of the Atlantic Conveyer Belt (sort of like El Nino in the Pacific) which follows regular patterns like much of our weather.

Antarctica melting? Nope, the ice is thickening on this frozen continent that contains 90% of the world’s ice. A small area of Antarctica (2% of total land mass), called the Antarctic Peninsula, has had a natural melting process for over 6,000 years (Dinosaurs in SUVs again?) as a result of the Katabatic winds and La Nina.

Some would submit that the left wing alarmists live in an alternate reality.

I dont think we have handled the Iraq situation as well as we could. If they would turn the military lose and let fight, it would end quicker. On the other hand, the media and some hand wringing politicians are worried that we might offend someone by actually fighting the war the way it needs to be done.

We never stop hearing about Gitmo, the media and some members of Congress never let up on finding things to trash the war effort with. Now we have lost some soldiers who's remains have to be checked with DNA testing to verify their identity and does it let up? NO. We should fight this freaking war or leave. Political Correctness in wartime is never going to win.

Sorry for the somewhat hijack. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Re: Global Warming Story.

Bottom line is the military cannot win this war in Iraq (as opposed to the war on "terror", which is a different thing.)

That is why we need to redeploy to the perimeter, take care of outsiders and alqaida types with informants and airstrikes (what we did with Zarqawi) keep all foreigners out of the mix, and let the Iraqis figure out what kind of government they want on their own.

The current course can only fail.
