Hi everyone,

This is my first boat and my first project. I will undoubtably need much assistance and advice. I got this off a coworker for $500. Its not in horrible shape but the floor is totally rotted all the way through. Im very good with the electrical side of things. No clue when it comes to the structure. I have done some fiberglass patching before but nothing as extensive as this will be. Not sure of the year on this but on the little plaque inside it shows runabout v-145 Glastron. Looks like late 60's im guessing.

Ive got the bulk of the floor ripped out (more like fell apart). It was bad under the top plywood. Ive got all the foam out.

What type of tools would i need for a project such as this? I have some but i doubt what i have is enough. I dont know the technical terms for any of this either so be patient with me please :).

Looks like the support beams have rotted but some of the fiberglass is still holding it together. Ill post pictures of the tomorrow. Any and all help is appreciated! Cheers! :D

Good luck, a neat looking boat. You can search here and spend a lot of time reading other posts about how people have done it. As far as tools it really doesn't take anything specialized. Probably a grinder with a wire wheel and some flapper sanding discs are the only thing you may not have lying around. Remember to look for rot in the transom and with a closed bow like that, it may be easier to bit the bullet and lift the cap off the boat which shouldn't be too bad on that boat.

Most importantly, does the motor run? That's where you can really end up spending some money.

also just wondering if anyone can tell me about the foam in the bottom of the boat. Is it a special type? Where can i get more? I plan to try and get the floor laid in and fiberglassed this weekend. So any help is appreciated. I just want to make sure i do this right and get it right the first time. Thanks all! --Scott

Welcome to iBoats!

Does the Motor Run? That is the MOST important thing. Do NOT put money into the restoration process if the MOTOR DOES NOT RUN AND RUN WELL!!!!!
You really need to do a LOT of searching and Reading on this forum about replacing stringers and decks so you can see what is involved in restoring your boat. With that much Damage to the floor I would be VERY suspicious about the Transom as well. That is the Back portion of the boat that the MOTOR hangs on. IF it is rotten ( And I would bet most of my money that it is) it will need to be replaced as well. Slow down and do your research. My momma said if it's worth doin, it's worth doin right. Lot's of help on here, just search for it. If you get in a hurry you will regret it in the end. Take your time and you will have a boat that will give you lots of enjoyment in the future and a great sense of satisfaction.

Good Luck

;)

The motor worked 2 years ago so im sure it will kick over with some love and attention. As for the transom, i think there is a bit of rotted wood there. ill probably replace it. Any suggestions what with? I had planned on using all pressure treated hard wood for the flooring and everything.

Re: Glastron V-145 flooring project

Well i got most of the floor cleaned out. I am going to try to take off the cap tonight and take the motor off. Need to build a nice motor stand. Anyone have any advice about taking the cap off this thing? Once thats off ill be able to clean up the rest and trim/cut and sand it down and put in the new stringers and transom. Any and all advice is appreciated!! I have looked all over the forums and read alot already.

Check out this guys post. He has a lot of helpful pics and ideas.http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=355668

AGAIN, You really should hv the MOTOR checked before you put a lot of money into this project. At least have a compression check done on it. Two years is a long time for things to go wrong. I'm just sayin.....:D

I would NOT use PT wood. The chemicals do NOT react will with Polyester Resin or epoxy. Just use A good grade of Ext. Ply wood. give it 2 coats of resin and then apply your cloth. You can laminate two pieces of 3/4 inch ply for your stringers and your Transom. 1708 Biax cloth is very easy to use and strong as heck. USComposites.com is an inexpensive place to get your supplies.

Give us some more pics of your work
