Gimble ring

cannot remove upper gimble pin, bolt is out of steering arm...using 5 lb slide-hammer to attempt to remove pin. Also have tried to heat steering arm. Any suggestions on removing upper pin?????????<br />Thanks!<br />p.s. We are following procedures listed in manual.<br />228 Mercruiser/305 chevy, 1979. :D

Can anyone with experience on these, tell me how to pull the upper pin???? Is there some other trick-I've followed the manual, and it won't budge...........Help, please! :(

Have you taken the nut off the top of it? Is the transom assy. still on the boat?

Had the same thing this spring had to change steering arm from spline type (old) to squ.nut.<br />top pin would not come out, had to remove transom plate, soak on coal oil over night and remove using a press. Got to be real careful last year on another same job lower pin broke off lug on transom plate had to replace the lot. Bye the way this all requied the engine to be pulled.

Is the nut still on the top of the steering arm pin? you took the bolt out.. understood but the top of that pin is threaded and has a nut on it. hard to get to with the transom assy. on the boat.
