got it thanks don. Either I need to use a puller to get it out of the transom or is there a trick or gotcha to watch out for.

Of course you need a puller. Most people use a heavy duty (10 lb.) slide hammer.
Then there is always the special tool shown in the manual. I know by now you have seen links to the manual.

No i know I was wondering if there was any tricks or things to worry about that arent in the manual. Thanks don I have the manual on my swim platform for the gimbal bearing and gimbal ring form the other posts. Thanks.

yep, the mercstuff way is suspect. i believed the sb........

what ain't in the maunual. is that ya can rent a three jaw puller at yer local autoparts store.... the one i got i think was only 5.5 lbs though...:( but it did do the work that was required of it...... to drive it in. i used a borrowed oem merc tool..... couldn't go wrong there. i was lucky to have been able to borrow it. probably won't happen again....
